2019-20 College Football Playoffs: Can Clemson Get The Job Done Again?

2019-20 College Football Playoffs: Can Clemson Get The Job Done Again?

The college football playoffs are right around the corner so it is time to start looking at the latest college football odds for 2019-20 and planning which wagers you are going to make. The playoff teams may not have been decided yet, but we have a good idea who will be there because some of our excellent sportsbook partners have published their NCAA football odds for 2019-20.

Here are four of the most popular NCAAF odds as we head towards the playoffs and the championship match.

  • Ohio State (+170)
  • LSU (+250)
  • Clemson (+250)
  • Georgia (+800)

Which Teams Are In The NCAA Playoffs?

The final four are yet to be decided as the season still has a couple of weekends to go, but we can make several assumptions based on the current standings and the current form.

No. 1 LUS, No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Clemson are all unbeaten this season and can boast of 11-0 records. Should they remain unbeaten in their last couple of matches they will occupy three of the four available playoff spots.

Who else is going to join them? Well, that depends on a few factors. There are many teams with a 10-1 record who could join the aforementioned trio in the playoffs. No. 4 Georgia and No. 5 Alabama look set to go head-to-head in the race for that fourth playoff berth. Both these teams must win the SEC Championship to get into the college football playoff.

Realistically, outside these five teams, the only other that has a realistic shot is No. 7 Utah. However, they must win their remaining game and capture the conference title to even have a hope of the playoffs.

Sorry to fans of both No. 6 Oregon and No. 8 Penn State but the dream is over for you guys for another season s Week 13 resulted in both teams losing and those (9-2) records just aren't going to cut it.

Ohio Are Favorites But We Like Clemson

It is worth noting that none of the NCAA playoff champions in the past five years have been the No. 1 and therefore favorite to win the championship. We don't know the reason for this but it is true. Indeed, the No. 1 has reached the final three times in the previous five years, Clemson in 2015-16 and they lost 45-40 to Alabama. It happened again in 2016-17 when Alabama lost 35-31 to Clemson, then again last season when Alabama again lost to Clemson, this time 44-16.

You should also be aware that Clemson has faced Alabama in three of the previous four finals and in the other years they battled it out in the semifinals.

You should lock up your NCAAF Vegas Odds at a sportsbook such as Bovada because they are very likely to change based on the last couple of results leading up to the playoffs. While you could gain some value in the odds growing longer, a special performance by any of the four sides we have mentioned above could see those odds shorten and lessen your value.

Ohio State are the +170 favorites in the NCAA football futures and it is easy to see why. Not only are they 11-0 this season, but they have also almost literally crushed every team that has had the misfortune of facing them. All but one of their victories this season have been by at least a 24 point margin and even that result saw Ohio win by double digits.

To put it another way, Ohio has outscored its opponents by 428 points through 11 games, which is nothing short of incredible.

Football punters are likely to start betting on Ohio to win as soon as the playoff teams are confirmed, so it pays to place your wagers now before the price drops. Learn more about the importance of betting odds here.

The Clemson Tigers (+250) are the joint-second favorites with LUS and they are our pick for college football glory. Clemson are a team that excels in the playoffs environment. They have featured in three of the past five finals, losing one and winning two, including last season's title when they demolished Alabama 44-16.

Clemson has won 26 consecutive games since losing to Alabama on new year's Day in 2018, a defeat that cost them the national championship. They should extend that run to 27 games this weekend as they take on South Carolina (-7) who have nothing to play for except pride.

Form is certainly a major factor in the playoffs and Clemson has their foot firmly on the gas with their last six games being won by 31 points or more. Bettors will be piling money on Ohio. Smart bettors will be backing Clemson to win back-to-back college football playoff titles.

Don't write off the chances of LSU (+250) because you don't enjoy an 11-0 record and be backed into joint second favorites by being anything other than a stellar team. While Clemson has only played one ranked team this season (Ohio has beaten all three it is faced) LSU has four ranked team victories to its name and that includes beating much-fancied Alabama.

Many believe this could be LSU's year because they have had to endure the most difficult schedule of all the teams. Yet they have still outscored their opponents by 276 points going into the last game and that is no mean feat.

Pick: Clemson at +250 with Bovada
