Non-conference play in college basketball is hitting a fever pitch as teams all over the country are looking for some winter momentum before they head into conference play starting in the new year. On Monday night, four squads will square off with the road teams coming in as slight favorites. In our first highlighted matchup, the Yale Bulldogs travel to Quinnipiac for a matchup against the undefeated at-home Bobcats. Meanwhile, the Blue Hens of Delaware hit the road against a struggling 2-7 Robert Morris squad as Delaware aims for another road victory (they are 3-1 away from home this season). Each team could make a big statement in each contest for these Monday night showdowns.

In this article, SBS will be going over what to look for from each of these squads along with more thoughts and notes about college basketball wagering.

NCAA Basketball Game One Overview

Team Spotlight: Yale Bulldogs

The Bulldogs enter this contest with a modest 6-5 record, but could really use some momentum away from home as they are looking to improve their 1-3 away game mark. Yale is led by leading scorer Bez Mbeng (14.3 points per game) who also paces the squad in assists as well with 3.2 apg. Ranked as the No. 110 team per KenPom, Yale is coming off a thrashing of the Colby-Sawyer Chargers, 95-36. Moreover, they were able to beat Loyola Marymount, 83-80 on the road earlier this year, and is important since the Lions outrank the Bobcats per the latest KenPom rankings.

Team Spotlight: Quinnipiac Bobcats

With a stellar record of 5-0 at home (overall mark of 7-2), Quinnipiac has quietly put together a solid start to the season. However, it would appear that the Bobcats are not getting the respect they think they deserve as they are still ranked as the No. 275 team in the country per KenPom. Nonetheless, the Bobcats have won four of their last five games and are led by leading scorer Matt Balanc (17.1 ppg). A squad that does a great job of creating opportunities for scoring (they average over 15 assists per game), the Bobcats will have their biggest test yet in this matchup against Yale.

Prediction: Yale is by far and away the best team Quinnipiac has faced this season. While this game will be at home for the Bobcats, look for the Bulldogs to pull away in this contest

NCAA Basketball Game Two Overview

Team Spotlight: Delaware Blue Hens

Recognized as the 86th team in the latest NET rankings, Delaware is coming off an excellent win on the road against Xavier last week. With an overall mark of 6-3, the Blue Hens are setting themselves up as one of the teams to beat in the Coastal Athletic Association. Forward Jyare Davis has been the main offensive threat for Delaware with 18.1 ppg on 45.8% field goal shooting. Oddly, Christian Ray, a guard, paces the squad in rebounding with 8.8 boards per game. While the Blue Hens did recently drop three games in a row, they still started the season 5-0 and can win in bunches.

Team Spotlight: Robert Morris Colonials

Opposing Delaware in this matchup will be Robert Morris from the Horizon League. At 2-7, the Colonials have been floundering to start the season, but they do at least have two wins at home where they will be taking on the Blue Hens. Robert Morris is led by dual-threat player Markeese Hastings who leads the squad in both points (14 ppg) and rebounds (8.4 per contest). However, defense is where the Colonials have been undone this year, giving up an average of 74.7 ppg. Moreover, Robert Morris is ranked near the bottom of the NET rankings, with a rank of 281.

Prediction: This game will be Delaware’s to lose as the Colonials have been all over the place this season. Take the Blue Hens to win
