UFC Fight Night 265: Preview and Picks

Houston hosts the next UFC fight night in August. With two title bouts happening on the main fight card, we are all excited to see how things shake out. The men’s heavyweight championship match is considered interim because the current reigning champion has reportedly refused to defend his title.

Amanda Nunes

Amanda Nunes is a legendary Ultimate Fighting Champion. She is the first woman to hold two division titles, in both the featherweight and bantamweight divisions. She is currently number one in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings.

Basically, if Nunes is going up against any other opponent, she is the automatic favorite. This Brazilian is also the only UFC fighter, male or female, who has successfully defended both division titles while holding them.

Even when her odds are so lopsided, it is a great idea to bet on Amanda Nunes. This is one of the safest bets you are likely to find in this or any other sport. Though your payout will be relatively low compared to your risk, it is nearly a shoo-in for a winning bet slip.

Our pick for the women’s bantamweight championship bout is Amanda Nunes (-700)

Derrick Lewis vs Ciryl Gane

The main event for men’s UFC is sure to be much more of a nail-biter than the women’s bantamweight bout. Competing for the interim heavyweight title, Derrick Lewis and Ciryl Gane are second and third in UFC heavyweight rankings. You could not ask for a closer match than this one.

American Lewis is also known as the Black Beast. Born in Louisiana, this athlete is tied for the most knockouts in UFC history spanning all weight divisions. He and Vitor Belfort have each racked up twelve.

Cyril Gane is a French MMA fighter, who specializes in Muay Thai and Kickboxing. He is a strong fighter and is known for being able to withhold for a long time, as he normally wins by decision, rather than by knockout.

In this case, we recommend betting on Lewis (+225). He is ranked higher than Gane and currently has more valuable odds. It just makes sense to go with the fighter who is at least as likely to win as his opponent but who has odds that seem to assume him to be a huge underdog. This is a win-win situation.
