This weekend marks a historic moment for Formula One as the Las Vegas Grand Prix makes its much-anticipated debut.

This event will be the third race of the season held in the United States, immersing the racing spectacle in the heart of the city. The circuit will weave through iconic landmarks like Caesars Palace and the Bellagio, unleashing the thunderous roar of F1 cars down the renowned Vegas Strip.

Anticipation is high for this high-speed circuit, rumored to rival the famed tracks of F1’s ‘temple of speed’ at Monza. The layout could favor the reigning world champion, Max Verstappen, who clinched his 17th victory of the season just two weeks ago in Brazil, securing his third consecutive world title.

Las Vegas Grand Prix Betting

At odds of -400 it is hardly worth betting on Max Verstappen to win the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Instead, the value can be found in podium betting.

Charles Leclerc

In the qualifying session for the Brazil Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc showcased impressive speed, securing the second position on the grid. However, his promising performance took a sudden turn when a steering malfunction occurred during the formation lap. This unfortunate incident led to Leclerc crashing out, rendering him unable to start the race. Leclerc will be determined to redeem himself with a good race in Vegas.

Fernando Alonso

Aston Martin experienced a spectacular resurgence as Fernando Alonso made a dramatic return to form at the Brazil Grand Prix. The seasoned Spanish driver showcased his expertise by holding off Sergio Perez’s determined pursuit for several laps. In a thrilling turn of events, Alonso successfully overtook the Mexican and engaged in a captivating drag race to the finish line, ultimately securing a magnificent third place in Sao Paulo.

The unique characteristics of the track in Brazil, often serving as a great equalizer, highlighted the potential impact of experience in this high-stakes race. Alonso’s skill and veteran prowess played a crucial role in his remarkable podium finish, emphasizing the significance of seasoned drivers on tracks that demand both strategy and expertise.

The Track

The official Las Vegas Strip Circuit, boasting 17 corners and spanning 3.8 miles, winds its way through the heart of the iconic Vegas landscape, with barriers lining the route. Beyond the breathtaking location, the track layout prioritizes exciting racing, a focal point during the planning phase.

The purpose-built pit and paddock complex adds to the allure, creating a stadium-like atmosphere in the initial part of the lap. The subsequent long straight leading towards the Sphere, another striking feature, hosts the first DRS zone, offering ample overtaking possibilities into the braking zone at Turn 5.

Following this, a combination of technical sections and a sweeping wide chicane guides the drivers into Turn 12, leading to a left-hander onto The Strip. Here, a flat-out stretch of over a mile awaits, featuring a slight kink at Turn 13 before heavy braking for a three-part chicane at Turns 14-16.

This layout promises top speeds comparable to Monza, setting the stage for numerous overtaking opportunities, whether through DRS deployment or skillful braking at the end of the two extensive straights. The prospect of action-packed moments is heightened at Turn 1, adding to the excitement of the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Intense driver rivalries heating

As we approach the conclusion of the season, the battle for final positions is reaching a fever pitch. Only the Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi races remain. Following Interlagos, Sergio Perez appears to have a firmer grasp on second place. However, Mercedes had an unexpectedly challenging weekend. This created an opening for Lewis Hamilton to narrow the gap and introduce uncertainty ahead of the last race.

With a current margin of 32 points, Perez can secure second place by outscoring Hamilton by at least seven points. In the event of a tie at the season’s end, Perez holds the advantage with two victories this year. However, Hamilton must also be mindful of the resurgence of two formidable contenders, Fernando Alonso and Lando Norris. Alonso, once a strong contender for second overall, regained momentum with his third-place finish in Brazil, narrowing the gap. Meanwhile, Norris has impressively secured second place six times in the past 11 races, making him a force to be reckoned with in the final stretch of the season.
