Though there is still some time left in 2022, many golf enthusiasts are already turning their attention to the 2023 PGA Tour calendar year. With all of the major golf championships wrapped up for 2022, betting markets are now live for next year and a couple of favorites have emerged to win a major title. The first favorite that jumps off the board is the Open Championship winner Cameron Smith. Following closely behind is the 2022 Masters Tournament champion, Scottie Scheffler. Finally, SBS has also highlighted a dark horse contender in the field with 2020 U.S. Open winner Bryson DeChambeau looking to make his return to the top of the podium.

For this article, SBS will go over the betting markets related to the top contenders for a major title next year and if they will be successful in doing so.

PGA Golf favorites to win a Major in 2023BetOnline
Cameron Smith (Yes)+325
Scottie Scheffler (Yes)+350
Bryson DeChambeau (No)-1700

The No. 1 Contender: Cameron Smith (Odds: +325 to win a major)

As mentioned above, Smith is coming off his first-ever major championship in 2022 with an amazing victory at the Open Championship earlier this year. Currently ranked as one of the best in the world and also recognized as the 2022 PGA Player of the Year, Smith also won the 2022 Players Championship this year as well. He has also won four other tournaments on the PGA Tour and is consistently one of the strongest players in the world. The only cloud hanging over the Australian star is his affiliation with the controversial LIV Golf Tour. While it is unlikely that the PGA would ban any of its players for their affiliation with LIV, it is something worth watching into 2023.

Prediction: Barring any unforeseen restrictions from the PGA, Smith is a strong bet to win another major title in 2023 as he has shown little signs of slowing down.

The No. 2 Player: Scottie Scheffler (Odds: +350 to win a major)

Winner of the 2022 Masters Tournament, Scheffler is the world’s current no. 1 player with four total PGA Tour victories to his credit. A former Texas Longhorn, the 26-year-old Scheffler has been a burgeoning star on Tour and is certainly a player to watch in 2023. In addition to his prowess in 2022, Scheffler has also been recognized as the PGA Tour’s Player of the Year for the 2021-22 season along with being the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year in 2019-20. In addition to his win at Augusta, Scheffler also finished in second place at the 2022 U.S. Open.

Prediction: The Texan certainly has been on a hot streak as of late and has a good shot of any player to win a major next year

The dark horse Contender: Bryson DeChambeau (Odds: +1200 to win a major)

The final spotlight contender on our list, DeChambeau has cooled off a bit since his 2020 U.S. Open victory. After becoming an internet meme due to his rivalry with Brooks Koepka and just recently getting the business end of a guard rope at a recent pro golf event, DeChambeau is looking to turn the corner back to business next year. Known for being a highly cerebral player and for his monster drives, DeChambeau is currently suspended from the PGA but does have an outside chance of returning next season if he does not continue his relationship with LIV Golf. An outspoken player, especially for the pro golf circuit, the 29-year-old is certainly one to always keep your eyes on for better or worse.

Prediction: While DeChambeau could certainly make a big PGA comeback in 2023, SBS does not think it will be enough to win a major tournament
