The NHL Stanley Cup 2022 is well underway and we have got a huge game 2 waiting on us tonight between the Colorado Avalanche and the Nashville Predators.
The first game ended in a 7-2 thrashing in favour of the Avalanche, and now Nashville will be looking for revenge and to get even in game two of their best of seven series.

Colorado opened up as pre-tournament favourites to win the 2022 NHL Stanley Cup and showed why with a resounding 7-2 win in game 1 at the Ball Arena in Colorado.
Goals from Nathan MacKinnon (x2), Cale Makar, Gabriel Landeskog, Andrew Cogliano, Artturi Lehkonen and Devon Toews were enough for the Avalanche to pull away on the night, although they couldn’t prevent Matt Duchene coming away with two goals of his own for Nashville.
It was a super quick start to the game and was essentially over after the first period, with Colorado taking a 5-0 lead early on with two goals inside the opening 22 seconds.
Psychologically that fast start will obviously affect the Predators in the second game as they look to completely avoid getting smashed early doors for a second game in a row.
One of the very strongest teams across the entire NHL, Colorado have proven to be handy favourites this season winning in 53 of the 75 games they have been bookmakers favourites in.
They’ve been great when it comes to hitting the overs for this game too, hitting over 6.5 goals in 44 of 84 games so far this season. In the last ten games they’ve played the Avalanche have gone 8-1-1, scoring 31 goals for an average of 3.1 goals per game and conceding just 17 goals for an average of 1.7 goals per game over that period.
Across the season they have proven to be one of the best teams in the NHL. They have averaged 3.77 goals per game this season for the fourth best offense across the league, while they only allow 2.84 goals per game on average for the 8th best defence in the NHL.
They are able to create plenty of shooting opportunities too with an average of 35 shots per game, ranking them fourth in the league, while defensively they allow 31.9 shots per game for a ranking of 18th across the league.

Nashville come into this game as considerable underdogs but that isn’t a position that’s new to them. In fact they have won exactly half (19 of 38) of the games when they have gone into it on the wrong side of the bookies odds.
Much like Colorado, they have seen their games hit the Over 6.5 goals mark in 44 of 84 games this season. In their last ten games they’ve had a torrid time of things with a record of 4-5-1, scoring just 29 goals for an average of 2.9 goals per game and conceding 28 goals for an average of 2.8 goals per game in that period of time.
Across the entire season they’ve been bang average too.
They’ve average 3.21 goals per game across the NHL campaign, ranking them in 12th across the entire league, while they have conceded 3.04 goals per game on average for the 16th best ranked defence in the NHL.
The Predators have really struggled to create scoring opportunities too with just 29.7 shots taken per game over the season, for a league ranking of 23rd in the NHL while they have allowed 32.2 shots per game for a poor ranking of 20th in the league.

Colorado are better in attack, defensively, are a bigger goal threat and have the better individual players and coach to go with their home advantage on the night.
The Avalanche just slapped Nashville by five goals and blew them away within one period, so if they opt to turn it on and really push they know they have the qualities to be able to do that again at any point in the game.
With the spread set at -1.5 goals, Colorado should be able to waltz to victory with that too and if they pull away early enough once again then they have the quality to hit big points once again and smash the overs of 6.5 goals too (-120)
