Nascar Playoffs Predictions & Analysis For 2022 South Point 400

Stuck firmly in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs Round of 12, the championship chase rolls on to Sin City for a blistering showdown at the South Point 400. In the three rounds of 12 races thus far, three different drivers have been victorious with Tyler Reddick, (EchoPark Automotive 500), Chase Elliott (YellaWood 500), and Christopher Bell (Bank of America Roval 400) each taking home the checkered flag. Heading into this weekend, Elliott, Denny Hamlin, and Kyle Larson are the top three favored racers to notch the winning championship. With Elliott clinging to first place in the NASCAR Cup Series points standings, this will be a pivotal match to see who stays after the Round of 12.

For this article, SBS will go over what each driver brings to the table, who will be victorious in Vegas, and also some other notes about NASCAR wagering.

The No. 1 Contender: Denny Hamlin (+600)

Currently sitting in seventh place in the NASCAR Cup Series standings, Hamlin needs a big push in Vegas if he wants to rocket up the points charts. In his last four races, the veteran has put together three top-ten finishes to go along with one top-five mark at the 2022 YellaWood 500. Hamlin is still chasing his first victory since the 2022 Coca-Cola 600 back in May of this year. Though he is only 33 points back of the leader, the 2006 Nextel Cup Series Rookie of the Year needs a big performance this weekend to stay alive in the standings.

The No. 2 Driver: Kyle Larson (+800)

After being eliminated in the Round of 12, Larson is still favored by some outlets as a contender given his recent success (outside of a disastrous performance last weekend at the Bank of America Roval 400). Prior to that finish, the veteran had put together multiple top-ten finishes in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs and was also the winner of the 2022 Go Bowling at the Glen race in mid-August. Though he did win multiple races in 2022, it still is tricky to pick Larson here given the fact that he is out of playoff contention. Nonetheless, he could shock some people and pick up his third win of the season if things go right on Sunday.

Final Contending racer: Chase Elliott (+800)

The last racer on our list, Elliott is the current points leader in the NASCAR Cup Series standings and has had a marvelous 2022 thus far. With five wins on the season, the 26-year-old Elliott is in a prime position to capture his second NASCAR Cup Series crown after the 2020 title. The youngest NASCAR champion ever, Elliott has racked up some big boom or bust races in the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs with two top-three finishes but also two plus-30 finishes as well. Elliott has the highest ceiling of any of the drivers on this list and has a lot of momentum heading into Las Vegas.

Prediction: This will be a tough choice given how close these last couple of NASCAR races have been, but look for Elliott to lengthen his lead with a strong performance in Vegas
