Perhaps the most talented pure basketball player on the planet, Kevin Durant could be wearing a new uniform next season. After a somewhat mercurial and disappointing season with the Brooklyn Nets, the future Hall of Famer has many fans and observers predicting he will be in a new uniform in the fall. According to one report from Fan Nation, MyBookie has placed five teams as the favorites to land Durant. These squads are the Toronto Raptors, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans, Miami Heat and the Phoenix Suns as the presumptive favorites. According to the report, the Raptors in particular make for an interesting landing spot for the perennial All-Star.

For this article, SBS will go over some of the latest trade rumblings concerning the disgruntled superstar along with some other thoughts and notes about MyBookie.

MyBookie places Raptors as among favorites to land Durant

Per the All Raptors Fan Nation article, the Raptors have emerged as dark horses to land the All-World NBA star. MyBookie has listed Toronto as among the most likely destinations to acquire Durant who reportedly asked to be traded away from the Nets back in July. Per the sportsbook, the Raptors are currently placed at +700 to land the Brooklyn star in a trade. The Fan Nation article laid out a couple reasons why this makes sense for the franchise.

On one hand, Toronto has a “war chest of assets” to pull off a deal of this size and scope. For instance, Scottie Barnes is recognized by many analysts as among the most valuable wing players in the NBA. Moreover, players like OG Anunoby, Gary Trent Jr., and Precious Achiuwa would also be solid trade pieces in a Durant-centric trade. In addition to that, the Raptors also feature star players in Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet who could serve as cornerstone assets for the Nets if they desired to make a deal happen quickly. In addition to players, general manager Masai Ujiri has the luxury of multiple future first-round selections that could help the case to scoop up Durant.

Suns still favorite to pick up Durant in their title quest

Per the same article, Phoenix is still recognized as the favorite squad from MyBookie to make a deal happen for Durant. This is because GM Ujiri has made it clear that next season is another developmental year for the Raptors and that he is reluctant to move any players away from the squad’s young core. Juxtapose this with the Suns who are desperately close to a title with Chris Paul in his twilight years and young superstar Devin Booker potentially soaking up too much cap space with a future contract. While Durant is certainly a generational player, his contract makes sense for only a few squads in the league that would be able to absorb such a cap space hit.
