MotoGP racing fans are in for a treat this week as the 2023 FIM MotoGP World Championship circuit heads to Italy for a showdown at the Gran Premio d’Italia Oakley. Currently, first in the MotoGP championship standings, Francesco Bagnaia has a modest one-point lead following a disappointing result at the French motorcycle Grand Prix last month. Trailing close behind him is Marco Bezzecchi, a fellow Italian Ducati racer, who has also notched two first-place finishes and is coming off a win in France. Beyond those two, the next closest competitors are Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and also Jorge Martin from Spain. Neither of those two competitors has been able to notch a win despite their high ranks in the overall standings.

In this report, SBS will be going over what to look for from each of the favored racers in this competition and also some more notes about MotoGP betting.

First Contender Spotlight: Francesco Bagnaia (+400)

During the course of this MotoGP season, the Italian racer has had some spectacular outings but also has busted out of it two races as well. Kicking off the year with a win in Portugal, he also notched a first-place finish later in the season with a win at the Spanish Grand Prix. However, after winning a race this season, Bagnaia has followed up that performance with a lackluster performance. For instance, following his Portugal victory, he finished in 16th place in Argentina in the next race. Moreover, he recently had to retire in his last outing in France. Could he bounce back here? He won the 2022 Italian Grand Prix race so there clearly is a track record of success here.

Second Player Spotlight: Marco Bezzecchi (+500)

The other main event threat in this race, Bezzecchi is aiming for back-to-back wins and a place atop the MotoGP World Championship standings. With already two wins under his belt this season, the Italian Ducati racer has made a strong case for being the best in the world at this early season stage. While he did wash out during the Spanish Grand Prix, he rebounded with a win in France last time out and has notched all top-ten finishes thus far in 2023. However, no racer this year has won back-to-back races in MotoGP.

Third Contender Spotlight: Jorge Martin (+800)

Another high-flying racer, Martin is currently fourth in the MotoGP World Championship standings and is coming off a second-place mark in France. While he has had some sensational outings this season (three total top-five finishes to date), he has also sputtered in some races, retiring in two outings as well. Nonetheless, Martin has put together the two best races in a row of any competitor on this list so perhaps this is his breakthrough showcase.

Last Player Spotlight: Brad Binder (+850)

Our final contender spotlight, Binder is the only racer on this list that has made it through every competition unscathed and finished each race he has entered. That said, the highlight of his season has been the second-place finish at the Spanish Grand Prix and a handful of top-ten finishes. However, like Martin, it remains to be seen if he can put it all together and notch a first-place mark

Prediction: This race will be another two-racer showdown with Bagnaia and Bezzecchi duking it out on their home soil. Both are great picks here, but take the latter to win given his slightly more consistent track record
