Bellator Men’s Middleweight Championship overview: Johnny Eblen (c) vs. Fabian Edwards

Fighter Spotlight: Johnny Eblen

As noted above, the champion sports an undefeated record and is currently ranked as the No. 4 overall fighter in the Bellator men’s pound-for-pound rankings. Known as the “Human Cheat Code,” the native of Des Moines, Iowa, and was a former NCAA qualifier was a Division I wrestler for the Missouri Tigers. Coming off a unanimous decision title defense over Anatoly Tokov, Eblen has won the majority of his fights by way of decision (seven). In fact, he has done a sensational job in his last three bouts of scoring well, notching three consecutive unanimous decision wins in a row. He has never had a fight come down to a split decision victory as well, further signifying his dominance.

Fighter Spotlight: Fabian Edwards

Opposing the champion is the No.1 contender in the Bellator Middleweight Rankings, Edwards. The younger brother of UFC Welterweight Champion Leon Edwards, the younger sibling has put together a solid career of his own in the Bellator ranks. Coming off back-to-back unanimous decision wins, the 30-year-old from Kingston, Jamaica certainly has the skill to win in all kinds of ways. With a balanced victory sheet of four career knockouts, three submission wins, and five decision victories, Edwards can do damage in a variety of ways. For instance, his bout against former UFC legend Lyoto Machida last year ended in a first-round KO thanks to a well-timed elbow shot.

Prediction: A battle that has earned its top billing rank, take Eblen to continue his winning ways in Dublin albeit by way of a split decision this time

Bellator Men’s Featherweight Contest breakdown: Aaron Pico vs. Pedro Carvalho

Fighter Spotlight: Aaron Pico

A member of the famous Pico family of California, Pico is an accomplished wrestler and MMA combatant. He is a former Cadet World Champion and also placed second at the 2016 US Olympic Trials at 65 kilograms in freestyle wrestling. With a professional record of 11-4, the 26-year-old from Whittier, California has performed well since an early career mark of 2-2. He is coming off a unanimous decision win over James Gonzalez at Bellator 299. Moreover, not including his bout before last at Bellator 286 (loss due to shoulder injury), Pico has won seven fights in a row. Thus if he is healthy, he is a force to be reckoned with.

Fighter Spotlight: Pedro Carvalho

Our last athlete spotlight, Carvalho is a great combatant, but who has hit a patch of uncertainty in his last couple of bouts. After starting his MMA career with a record of 11-3, Carvalho has recorded a mark of 2-4, including two knockout losses. Moreover, after starting his Bellator career on a four-fight winning streak, the Portuguese athlete has hit some tough sledding. Regardless, this could be a bounce-back fight for him after falling to Jeremy Kennedy earlier this year at Bellator 291.

Prediction: This will be a hard-fought battle, but take Pico to score the win here given his more sustained success outside of injury. This should be one of the best Bellator 299 bets as well.
