A fight that has been a long time coming, Jake Paul is finally set to square off with Tommy Fury in Saudi Arabia later this month. Originally scheduled to take place in December 2021, this bout has been brewing for some time now with the initial contest being rescheduled due to an injury to Fury. In his place, former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley faced the younger Paul brother in a rematch battle. This will not be the case this time around as the two undefeated fighters (Paul is 6-0, while Fury is 8-0) are set to lock horns in what should be a fantastic early-year clash. With this duel being a long time in the making, in many ways this could be one of Paul’s most important boxing matches to date.

For this battle, SBS will be going over what to look for from each combatant along with some other thoughts about boxing wagering.

What to look for from: Jake Paul

Coming off a tremendous win over Anderson Silva in October of last year, Paul’s boxing record has improved to 6-0 as he takes on perhaps his toughest opponent to date. In his bout against Silva, the 26-year-old was able to notch a unanimous decision victory at the Desert Diamond Arena in Arizona and take down one of MMA’s most legendary stars. That said, this upcoming bout against Fury will be notable since this will be the first primary boxing athlete that Paul will take on. With that in mind, he still has had a penchant for making non-believers fans of his, with four knockout victories, including over the likes of MMA champions Woodley and Ben Askren

What has been notable about Paul’s ascension is his ability to consistently knock off opponents of increasingly impressive athletic resumes. For instance, the 26-year-old started his boxing career with a TKO win over YouTuber AnEsonGib and has steadily upped his caliber of opponents from NBA players (Nate Robinson) to legendary stars (Silva). Indeed, if the social media star can keep this progression of success then the sky is certainly the limit

What to look for from: Tommy Fury

The younger half-brother of the legendary heavyweight boxing champion, Tyson Fury, the younger Fury, like Paul, is an accomplished media personality/fighter in his own right. Also with an undefeated record of 8-0, Fury has shown he can win in more ways than one with four knockout wins to go along with his decision victories. In his last bout against Daniel Bocianski, Fury was able to edge out his opponent on points and then proceeded to call out Jake Paul for a rematch battle. Nicknamed “TNT,” Fury has been fighting out of the light-heavyweight to cruiserweight divisions and is a brash fighter that has been able to accrue points and wins at a rapid rate.

In prior wins, Fury has been able to knock out opponents with a big uppercut (Genadij Krajevskij) or by unanimous decisions on the judges’ scorecards (Anthony Taylor). Though the 23-year-old does maintain an undefeated record, a decent amount of his opponents have not been very strong, with some of them maintaining double-digit losses. While the caliber of his opponents has increased, Fury still has yet to put together a marquee win in his young boxing career. That said, if he can stop Paul in Saudia Arabia then the world will certainly focus on another Fury brother, at least for one day.

Prediction: In terms of sports spectacles, this should be an excellent boxing showcase to kick off the year. With that in mind, take Paul here to continue his ascent given his stronger resume against better opponents
