The 2026 edition of the French Open begins on May 24, 2026. The high-stakes women’s Grand Slam tennis tournament runs through June 6. While the prize purses for the event have not yet been announced, last year’s women’s winner, Coco Gauff, took home $2.9 million (USD). The runner-up, Aryna Sabalenka, earned $1.49 million.
In 2026, Gauff looks to win her second French Open. Gauff’s 2025 victory (6-7, 6-2, 6-4) ended Iga Swiatek’s run of three straight French Open victories and four titles in five years. Swiatek lost last year in the semifinals to Sabalenka (7-6, 4-6, 6-0). Gauff, Sabalenka, and Swiatek are the top three betting favorites heading into this year’s tournament. The other semifinalist from last year’s event, Loïs Boisson, who entered the tournament as a wild card, is not among the top 20 in betting odds to win the 2026 French Open.
Chris Evert holds the record for most women’s titles at the French Open with seven.
The French Open is the second Grand Slam event on the 2026 tennis calendar. The first, the Australian Open, took place earlier this year. Elena Rybakina won the women’s tournament, beating Sabalenka (6-4, 4-6, 6-4). Make sure to check out our futures betting picks for the 2026 men’s French Open.

The No. 2 woman in the current WTA rankings, the 24-year-old Iga Swiatek looks to get back to the top of the podium at the 2026 French Open. Her loss to Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals of this event in 2025 ended Swiatek’s 26-match winning streak at Roland Garros.
Swiatek did not have a great year on clay in 2025, failing to reach the finals in any event held on that surface, but she is a four-time champion at the French Open.
Swiatek fell in the quarterfinals of the 2025 U.S. Open, losing to Amanda Anisimova (6-4, 6-3). In this year’s first Grand Slam, the Australian Open, Swiatek was also eliminated in the quarters, losing to Elena Rybakina (7-5, 6-1).
Swiatek recently dropped out of the Qatar TotalEnergies Open, avoiding a quick turnaround from the Qatar Open, where she lost to Maria Sakkari in the quarterfinals (2-6, 6-4, 7-5).
Aryna Sabalenka is the No. 1 woman in the current WTA rankings. The 27-year-old was the runner-up at the 2025 French Open. She also reached the semifinals of Wimbledon last year, and finished the year by winning her second straight U.S. Open. Sabalenka opened 2026 with a second-place finish at the Australian Open, losing to Elena Rybakina (6-4, 4-6, 6-4) in the finals. The match was a rematch of the 2023 Australian Open finals, which Sabalenka won (4-6, 6-3, 6-4).
Sabalenka has never won a major on clay. Last year she entered the finals following a win over four-time champ Swiatek, but she could not get past Coco Gauff in the finals, despite winning the first set.
“This loss hurts so much, especially after such a tough two weeks, I played great tennis. And in these terrible conditions, showed such terrible tennis in the final,“ Sabalenka said following the loss.
The defending French Open champion, Coco Gauff, enters the 2026 version of the event with a target on her back and with Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka looking to end her reign over the event at one title. Gauff is currently the No. 5 player in the WTA rankings.
Gauff’s other Grand Slam title came at the 2023 U.S. Open, where she defeated Sabalenka (2-6, 6-3, 6-2). Gauff followed that win with a loss in the fourth round to Emma Navarro (6-3, 4-6, 6-3).
Gauff opened the 2026 Grand Slam year with a (6-1, 6-2) loss to Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. She finished last year with a fourth-round setback to Naomi Osaka (6-3, 6-2) at the U.S. Open.
Gauff didn’t get past her first match at the recent Qatar TotalEnergies Open. She lost to Elisabetta Cocciaretto (6-4, 6-2) in the second round of the event.
Look for Swiatek to get back to the top at the French Open. The betting pick is that Iga Swiatek will win her fifth French Open title in 2026, joining Margaret Court, and Adine Masson in the group of five-time winners. Swiatek and four others have won the event four times.
