Being the starting quarterback for an NFL team is perhaps the most glamorous job in American sports, but it also comes with a lot of lofty expectations as well. With that in mind, Everygame has a slew of betting markets related to the 2024 passing yard totals for an array of signal-callers this upcoming season. At the top of this list in terms of over/under’s is the electric Patrick Mahomes who is a two-time NFL MVP and three-time Super Bowl champion. As of this article’s writing, he has a current over/under of 4,350.5 which he has surpassed already four other times in his career. With the NFL expanding to 17 games a couple of years ago, one might assume the passing totals for these quarterbacks might look more inflated, but let’s take a closer in this article to find out.

In this report, SBS will explore the latest happenings going on over at Everygame along with some more notes and information regarding the website and beyond.

Mahomes leads the way followed by other All-Pros

The Kansas City Chiefs star is the face of the league for many reasons, one of which is his dynamic decision-making and his ability to rack up yards and touchdowns in bunches. To date, he has set the NFL record for average yards per game at 296.1 which is an astonishing number considering how many other fantastic quarterbacks have come before him. In 2022, he led the league in passing yards with 5,250 which was a career-high. Perhaps the only thing holding Mahomes back is how good he and the Chiefs are. This means him sitting out the last game of the regular season if Kansas City has already clinched the playoffs so they are not putting their star player in harm’s way. Of course, with a 74-22 record, one could assume this could be the case again this year if he is healthy and ready to roll which means the over from Everygame (-115) is in jeopardy).

As a senior in 2020 at LSU, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow won the Heisman Trophy and also the College Football Playoff National Championship. This led to him being selected by the Bengals first overall in the 2020 NFL Draft and becoming a dynamic force for Cincy. With 4,050.5 (-110) passing yards being the mark to hit this year, Burrow has his work cut out for him though as he tries to rebound from an injury-shortened campaign in 2023. Of course, the last time this happened (his rookie year in 2020), he went from throwing 2,688 yards to 4,611 and winning NFL Comeback Player of the Year in the process. He somewhat recently signed a gigantic contract which means the pressure will be on to produce.

A variety of stars make up rest of Everygame markets

Also noted in the article, another player to look out for is Eagles star playmaking quarterback, Jalen Hurts. Currently, his over/under on passing yards is 3,550.5 and he has eclipsed that number twice as a starter for the Birds, even doing so in 2022 playing only 15 games. A fantastic touchdown machine, especially in the last two seasons, he has scored 67 passing touchdowns along with 41 rushing scores. However, he will be without the services this year of stellar All-Pro center Jason Kelce who retired this past off-season following a decorated career.

Another interesting betting market here is Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. The powerful quarterback from Oregon is a very talented player but had his last campaign also be undone by injuries. He also now has to work with a group of skill position players that lost Pro Bowl talents in wide receiver Keenan Allen, running back Austin Ekeler, and big play threat Mike Williams. This is why perhaps his over/under is set at 3,600.5 per Everygame’s main website. However, the 2020 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year should not be underestimated in this scenario as he has eclipsed that number of 3,600 in three of his four seasons in the NFL, the only time not doing so, was last year when his season was cut short due to an injury.

Of course, with any of these potential scenarios, it is important to note not just the talent of the player, but also the talent of the positions and coaches around them. In fact, with so much movement this past offseason in terms of players going from team to team, it is important to factor in as well how those new relationships might impact these quarterbacks.
