Over in the Golden State, one city is receiving a large donation to help with better projects in the city, and the gift is coming from a nearby tribal casino. Per a recent article, Elk Grove has received a donation of more than $1 million from Wilton Rancheria and Sky River Casino to aid in road improvements, marking a significant investment in the city’s infrastructure and future. The donation is part of a growing partnership that Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen said benefits the city as its population continues to boom. “As the city continues to grow, so do our transportation needs. And very specifically roadway improvement and infrastructure,” Singh-Allen said.
In this article, SBS will be going over the latest gaming news and notes coming from the Golden State, along with a variety of notes and news you can only find at SBS.
Noted in the same article, the funds are expected to improve roadways throughout Elk Grove. This is especially the case on Kammerer Road, Grant Line, and the Whitelock interchange near the Highway 99 corridor, all located near Sky River Casino. Per an official release from the casino, Wilton Rancheria and Sky River Casino jointly presented a supplemental regional roadway contribution of $1,070,000 to the City of Elk Grove. The contribution the report notes will support critical transportation and infrastructure projects in Elk Grove and fulfill a key component of the sovereign agreement between the two entities. More specifically, this is between Wilton Rancheria and the City of Elk Grove to support infrastructure needs resulting from the Tribe’s development.
“Working in partnership with the City of Elk Grove, we have a shared and mutually beneficial goal to enhance and uplift the city with much-needed infrastructure improvements to support growth and expansion,” Sky River Casino President Michael J. Facenda said. “We are proud to deliver this supplemental contribution that is an incredible example of how businesses and entities should give back to the communities they serve.”
The contribution highlights the collaborative and continued commitment to regional infrastructure, as outlined in the agreements that provide funding for crucial roadway and community improvements in the Elk Grove area, the article notes.
“When we built Sky River casino, our vision extended beyond our own community. We understood the responsibility that comes with growth, and we made a commitment to support the infrastructure that connects and strengthens Elk Grove,” Jesus Tarango, Chairman of Wilton Rancheria, said. “We are honored to work alongside the City to ensure that as our Tribe grows, the entire community benefits.” The contribution is earmarked for critical, next-phase roadway and infrastructure improvements designed to enhance regional traffic flow, public safety, and long-term infrastructure health as the casino expands.
Per the release, the funds will be allocated to projects such as the following: Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Implementation. This funding is for transportation technology to dynamically manage traffic signals and optimize flow on previously widened and improved major arterials, such as Kammerer Road and Grant Line Road. Additionally, this covers Preventive Roadway Maintenance. More specifically, this is geared toward dedicated funds for accelerated preventive maintenance and pavement preservation on key regional connector routes impacted by increased regional usage.
Per the article, there is also the Future Capacity Project Reserves that are covered in the gift. Contributing to the City of Elk Grove’s capital improvement reserves to ensure funding is available for any necessary future expansions or new phases of projects as the city continues to grow. Construction is well underway and is currently in Phase 2 of the expansion project at Sky River. In the near future, the casino will expand its gaming floor, add an additional High Limit room, and build a 300-room state-of-the-art hotel, luxurious spa, spectacular outdoor pool, and an innovative meeting, event, and entertainment space.
As an architectural highlight, a dramatic hotel atrium ceiling will allow for breathtaking views of the sky above – one of many features that pay tribute to the Tribe’s close connection to nature. The expansion plan is scheduled for completion in 2027. Mayor Singh-Allen expressed gratitude for the continued partnership: “The cooperation between the City, Wilton Rancheria, and Sky River Casino continues to provide tangible benefits to our residents. The significant funding will help us accelerate projects that directly improve the daily lives of commuters and reinforce our commitment to safe, accessible infrastructure across Elk Grove.” Built in partnership with Boyd Gaming Corporation, which is managing the property for the Tribe, the casino opened in August 2022.
