The LA Dodgers continue in their quest to win another World Series when they play the third match of their mini-series against the Cleveland Guardians tonight. The Dodgers are one of the favorites to win the World Series, and all eyes will be on Dave Roberts and his team to see if they can deliver. Here we look ahead to their latest fixture and tell you how we think they will get on in our latest MLB betting picks.
The Dodgers are one of the biggest names in MLB, and with that comes pressure to deliver titles. They last won the World Series in 2020. But such is their stature in the sport, they are almost expected to win every year.
Such is the Dodgers lead in the NL West, it is no longer possible to get a bet on them winning the division. The Dodgers have won the NL West in eight of the past nine seasons. The only year they didn’t win it was in 2021 when they were pipped to the title by the San Francisco Giants (by just one win).
But it’s not winning NL West titles that the Dodgers are judged. It’s winning World Series titles. And this year is no different.
In the latest odds to win the 2023 World Series, the best MLB World Series betting sites have the Atlanta Braves and the Dodgers as their two leading contenders.
The Braves last won the World Series in 2021 under the guidance of legendary coach Brian Snitker. They are the +310 favorite to do it again this year. The LA Dodgers, who won the 2020 World Series under current manager Dave Roberts are second favorites to win again this year at +450.
Both franchises are led by managers who have recent experience winning the World Series. And this adds to the credibility of both teams and is why they are the two leading contenders in 2023.
Behind the two favorites come the defending champions, the Houston Astros. Along with the Texas Rangers, both franchises are +750 to win the 2023 World Series.
As to be expected following recent results, the Dodgers are heavy-betting favorites to win the match. LA is -200 on the money line, with a win for the Cleveland Guardians at +180.
On the handicap spread, the Guardians are +110 to win with a 1.5-point start. While proving just how dominant the Dodgers are, even starting from behind on the handicap, they are favorites to win at -130 and cover the spread.
In total points betting, over 9, is -105, with under 9 favored at -115.
Wow, what a start to the mini-series that was for the Cleveland Guardians. Although a win for Cleveland wasn’t a huge shock, the scoreline certainly is.
The Dodgers had won 17 from 19 in August before their 8-3 loss last night. The main bulk of the damage came in the seventh innings. This is when Cleveland turned a 3-2 deficit into an 7-3 lead.
The win for Cleveland is only their fourth in their last ten. But on a positive note, it is their third win over LA in their previous four meetings. The key is backing it up with another victory when the teams meet later and to seal the series.
That won’t be easy. The Dodgers have still won 17 of their last 20 matches. And they only lost last night due to a remarkable comeback. Comebacks like that don’t happen every day. And certainly not against a side as talented as the Dodgers are.
The Dodgers will know they had control of the fixture early on, and Dave Roberts will have quickly worked out just where things went wrong.
The Guardians can’t be totally written off here. They are second in the AL Central, and overall have had a pretty decent season. Okay, so recent results haven’t been great, but they will have taken great heart from their 8-3 win over LA in the opening match of the mini-series.
That said, how often do the Dodgers lose two in a row? Especially in that style. Not often. And we fully expect to see Dave Roberts’ team bounce back with a win.
The Dodgers are -200 on the money line and -130 to win and cover the spread. We’re not bothering with the money line, it’s too short. Instead we’re going for a Dodgers win and for them to cover the spread for our pick.
