The Lions started their season in less than impressive fashion after a strong 2024 season, as the Green Bay Packers handed them a lopsided 13-27 defeat on the opening day of the campaign.
But the team discovered their incredible scoring prowess and went on an excellent run to win their next four games. Detroit defeated the Chicago Bears 52-21 in week two, before scoring a touchdown in every quarter during their 38-30 win over the Baltimore Ravens in their next game.
The Lions continued their good form with a 34-10 win over the Cleveland Browns and then thrashed the Cincinnati Bengals 37-24. But that win streak came to an end in week six, as they suffered a 17-30 defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs. Detroit got back to winning ways with a 24-9 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before a bye week, and their form has been inconsistent at best since.
Detroit have alternated losses and wins in their five games, going 2-3, with narrow defeats against the Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers in their last outing, while they claimed a 44-22 win over the Washington Commanders and a 34-27 overtime win against the New York Giants prior to that.
Dallas have had a very mixed season so far in 2025, and heading into this game in the best form they’ve been in all year on the back of three consecutive victories.
The season began with a difficult 24-20 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles, before they earned their first win of the season against the New York Giants in week two with an overtime victory. The Cowboys then fell to a 31-14 loss to the Chicago Bears, before they were held to the only tie in the NFL season so far, drawing 40-40 with the Green Bay Packers in week 4.
The team got a second win over the Giants in week five in a thrilling game, but they then fell to defeat against the Carolina Panthers to once again see their momentum stalled. A dominant 44-22 win over the Washington Commanders followed, but Dallas then fell to consecutive defeats against the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals in their next fixtures.
Those defeats were followed by a bye week, and they have since returned completely recharged and re-energized, and have won consecutive games for the first time this season.
The Cowboys turned in an impressive performance to beat the Las Vegas Raiders 33-16, before completing a stunning late comeback against the Philadelphia Eagles saw them defeat the reigning Super Bowl champions 24-21. They then followed that up last week with a sensational 31-28 win over the Kansas City Chiefs as they look to put together a late charge for the playoffs.

When the Detroit Lions lose in recent years, they tend to respond in positive fashion, going 13-1 ATS over their last 14 games after suffering defeats. Their defeats this season have only come against competitive teams, and it’s hard to say if the Cowboys fall into that category.
Dallas have claimed consecutive wins over the Chiefs and Eagles in their last two games, but Kansas are seriously struggling and Philadelphia switched off late. Those games also came at home, and they have been significantly worse on the road this season.
It’s also clear that the Lions’ struggles have come against top defenses rather than excellent offensive units. The Cowboys don’t possess that, considering their defense is ranked 30th in the NFL for points allowed this season, and they have regularly been put to the sword by teams that can hang with them offensively.
Detroit can stall Dallas defensively, and their better offensive performances have come at home and following losses this season.
Putting all of that together, backing the Lions to continue their excellent run of going ATS following defeats, plus positive home form, backing them at -105 to end Dallas’ winning streak by more than a field goal looks like the best value bet available.
