Nascar Playoffs Analysis And Selections For The Dixie Vodka 400

Set to take off this weekend at the Homestead-Miami Speedway in Florida, the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs rumbles on at the Dixie Vodka 400. With the field being whittled down to the Round of 8 racers, points will be placed at a premium as the racers duke it out at the final three races of the season. Joey Logano is the current points leader at 4,084 and is 21 points ahead of second-place driver Ross Chastain. Logano is coming off a win at the South Point 400, while Chastain notched a second-place finish in Las Vegas. Currently in fourth place is NASCAR veteran Denny Hamlin who has won the Dixie Vodka 400 (or some iteration of it) three times in his career.

In this report, SBS will be going over what to look for from each favorite at Homestead, who will win the race, and also some more thoughts about NASCAR wagering.

The No. 1 Contender: Tyler Reddick (+700)

Reddick was unfortunately eliminated in the NASCAR Cup Series Round of 12 last weekend but still has had some strong performances during the 2022 season. With three first-place finishes on the year, including notching the checkered flag at the AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 500 back in late September, Reddick has shown he can consistently race at the top of the leaderboard and pull out wins. With two back-to-back top-10 finishes, Reddick will be angling for his first-ever win at the Dixie Vodka 400 this weekend. A former NASCAR Xfinity Series champion, the 26-year-old is one of the rising stars in the sport and one to watch

The No. 2 Driver: Denny Hamlin (+800)

A three-time Daytona 500 champion, Hamlin is in contention for his first-ever NASCAR Cup Series championship and he will be in a prime position if he can win this weekend. Coming off a fifth-place finish at the South Point 400, the 41-year-old Tampa, Florida native should have some home-cooking mojo this weekend at the Dixie Vodka 400. With three prior wins at the track, Hamlin is tied for the most wins ever by a driver at the course and has a great shot of winning again if he can put it together. Since the start of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, the veteran has put together some great performances with two second-place finishes and six total top-10 finishes out of seven races. One of the most consistent drivers in the field, Hamlin will be aiming for his third and potentially most crucial win of the season at Homestead.

Final Contending racer: Ross Chastain (+1000)

Currently, in second place in the NASCAR Cup Series standings, Chastain is another driver that could make a huge leap with a big performance this weekend at the Dixie Vodka 400. At only 29 years of age, Chastain is another up-and-comer in the sport of NASCAR. Known as the Melon Man, due to his signature celebrations of smashing watermelons to the ground in Victory Lane, 2022 has been the best year yet for Chastain. Since the start of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, the 29-year-old has yet to smash any melons in victory lane, but he has two wins on the year along with a slew of top-five finishes. With only 21 points separating him from Logano at the top of the standings, Chastain is a nice dark horse pick to make a championship run.

Prediction: Thanks to his strong track record of success at the course, Hamlin is a great pick here to win and jump up some crucial spots in the NASCAR Cup Series standings.
