A coach that is no stranger to success and also the spotlight, Sean Payton enters this NFL season as the new leading man of the Denver Broncos. Per the Bovada website and other news outlets, the online sportsbook lists Payton with +1100 odds to win Coach of the Year this upcoming NFL season (second to Detroit’s Dan Campbell at +900). The Super Bowl-winning head coach has his work cut out for himself this year as the Broncos only won five games last year, canning former head coach Nathaniel Hackett in the process. According to one report, four of the last six Coach of the Year winners were first-year coaches of that team, bringing even more value to Payton’s +1100 odds. Moreover, as one report alludes to, Payton’s odds are “a great bet considering how much room for improvement the Broncos have.”

In this report, SBS will be going over what to look for from the latest gaming news from Bovada and also some more thoughts and notes about using the online sportsbook.

Payton and Dan Campbell jostling for pre-season honors

While Payton has been positioned as one of the favorites to win Coach of the Year in 2023-24, Detroit’s Campbell is actually the clubhouse leader in terms of favorite betting odds (+900). A former tight end at Texas A&M and a decade in the NFL, “Dantallica” has already made his mark on Detroit with his gritty attitude and tough mindset. Moreover, the two share a common connection as Campell was part of the Saints’ roster when Payton was the head coach in New Orleans. Moreover, both have spent time together when the former tight end broke into the NFL coaching ranks as an assistant.

Moving back to the Broncos’ head man, one report also notes his impact on other betting markets at Bovada. His presence is also felt when looking at the Broncos Super Bowl 58 betting odds, as they have a surprising mark of +3500 even though the squad went 5-12 last season. As noted in the article, all other teams that finished with five wins or fewer have at least +5000 Super Bowl 58 odds or longer.

Bovada lists Eberflus and Smith as other COY contenders

In addition to Payton and Campbell, there are two other head coaching candidates that stand out as potential COY picks. Per Bovada’s site, Matt Eberflus, the leading man for the Chicago Bears, is another strong betting market pick at +1100. With young gun quarterback Justin Fields at the helm, Eberflus has a solid chance to make some significant progress in Chicago this season. Finally, the Falcons’ Arthur Smith is the last contender one article notes as a potential favorite to win COY at +1200. That said, this is perhaps a peculiar selection as the Falcons head into this season with an unsettled quarterback position and a squad that is coming off back-to-back seven-win seasons.
