In a report from AL.com, it would appear that the Crimson’s Tide reign at the top of college football is far from over. According to the article, Caesars Sportsbook on its website said that Alabama and Ohio State – not the reigning champion Georgia Bulldogs – are the clear favorites for the next NCAA football championship. The two squads have been dominating futures bets at the sportsbook and have risen above the pack as the teams to beat in college football this season. According to one writer from the Caesars Sportsbook, this could be a “generational” team for Alabama.

For this article, SBS will go into more depth surrounding the latest reports from Alabama and also some more thoughts and notes about gaming in the state.

The Tide’s odds have steadily progressed since January

Per Joseph Feazel at Caesars, Alabama’s title chances have grown in a positive direction since the conclusion of the 2021-22 NCAA football season. Back on January 10th, the Tide was rolled out as the +250 favorite to win the 2023 national title. However, per the Caesars Sportsbook, a $10,000 wager from an Indiana bettor came in on Georgia, which resulted in pitting Georgia and Alabama together as the +325 co-favorites. Since then, the Tide have steadily clawed back to the top of the preseason favorite betting markets

Earlier this summer, a Nevada bettor then laid down $100,00 on Alabama +200 which immediately shifted its odds to +180. Feazel from Caesars commented that he is surprised that Alabama and Ohio State have taken up the lion’s share of attention since the Bulldogs are coming off a national title. The author pointed out that Georgia has arguably an easier schedule than Alabama and should be double-digit favorites in each game they play in. Moreover, he also indicated that even if the Bulldogs lose the SEC title game, there is still a path for them to get into the College Football Playoff.

Alabama has to buck history in pursuit of 2023 title

According to the report from AL.com, this year’s edition of the Tide does have to contend with some unfavorable history in their pursuit for a national title. In the past decade, the only team with lower preseason national title odds than this Alabama group was back in 2018. That Crimson Tide squad was listed at +175 ahead of that season, but they would go on to lose against Clemson in the national title game. Regardless, Alabama leads the way with 33.7 percent of the total dollars wagered among all 2023 college football national title bets placed at the Caesars Sportsbook, with Ohio State second at 24.6%.
