Who’s going to come out on top at the Royal Portrush Golf Club later this week? That’s what plenty of people have on their minds as the Open Championship is officially here. There’s a loaded group hoping to win the title, as the top golfers on the planet are fired up to compete. With that said, Scottie Scheffler is expected to win the 2025 Open Championship. Will he be able to get the job done?
That’s the hope for him, as the hype is real for him leading up to the first round. Scheffler is ranked the No. 1 golfer on the PGA Tour and for good reason. He’s of course no stranger to winning major titles and he’s hoping that he can put together a strong set of performances over the next few days. Things will get started on Thursday, as he’ll want to make a splash in the first round.

“I’m fortunate to be here playing golf, but if golf were ever to affect my family life or the relationship I have with my wife or my son, that would be the last day I play this game for a living,” a humble Scheffler said leading up to the Open Championship.
According to the best betting sites, the superstar golfer has been given +450 odds to win the Open Championship. There’s some pressure on Scheffler to post a win later this week, especially after some of the majors he participated in recently didn’t quite go to plan. Will he be able to do so? We think so, which is why we’re rocking with Scheffler as our pick.
Yes, people are excited about what Scheffler might be able to get done in Northern Ireland, but the fact of the matter here is that Rory McIlroy is hoping to make more noise at the Open Championship. This is going to be a special tournament for McIlroy, as it’s a bit of a homecoming for him. There’s surely nothing better for him than to compete in a major close to home. He’s got that in mind leading up to the first round.
“When I was looking at the calendar for 2025, this was the tournament that was probably circled, even more so than the Masters for different reasons,” McIlroy said on returning to Northern Ireland for this special tournament. “It’s lovely to be coming in here already with a major and everything else that’s happened this year.”
Interested in getting involved in some of the betting action too? There’s no better time than now to take a look at the latest odds via the top golf betting sites and put some money down. From our chair, it’s always wise to look at the special promotions that are being offered. This includes the BetOnline bonus codes and promotions. It’d be a smart move to give those a look, plus our Vegas betting guides, with the Open Championship here.
Per the Las Vegas oddsmakers, Mcllroy holds +750 odds – which is a decent amount behind Scheffler. However, people are still talking about his unforgettable performance at The Masters. Him winning the tourney for the first time is always going to be special. Now, though, let’s see if McIlroy can win another tourney. We’re sticking with Scheffler as our pick, but we fully expect Rory to be in it towards the end of the final round.
Another question plenty of people have on their minds is will Scottie Scheffler be able to pull away in the final round of the Open Championship? This is going to be key for him if he wants to lift the silverware high into the sky on Sunday. How many times in the past have we seen an incredible final round lead to a major title for someone? Yup, it happens quite a bit.
At the same time, however, things can be flipped and a poor final day can make the difference in someone potentially getting second instead of first. This is what Scheffler is hoping to avoid this weekend. He’s the No. 1 PGA golfer and it’s time for him to showcase why in the best way possible. McIlroy, Jon Rahm and many others have a target on him, as they’d love nothing more than to knock him off his perch.
This is certainly something that Scheffler has in the back of his mind too. Soon enough, we’ll find out how things go down for him, but our expectation is he’ll be tremendous from start to finish. Per the oddsmakers, the over/under for Scheffler’s margin of victory has been set at 1.5 strokes, with +950 odds for both via the best British Open golf betting sites. It’s going to be close, but we’re going with the over there.
