Slated for this upcoming weekend at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia, the 2023 Ambetter 400 should be a must-watch NASCAR clash. With William Byron coming away with the win at last weekend’s United Rentals Work United 500, he will look to defend his crown in the Peach State. While Alex Bowman is the current points leader for this NASCAR Cup Series season, he still is not among the top contenders this weekend in Hampton. Among the favorites, this weekend are Kyle Larson (fifth place), William Byron (fourth), Ross Chastain (third), and Christopher Bell (sixth). Among those drivers, Byron is the only one to have notched a victory, which he has done on back-to-back weekends.

For this article, SBS will be going over what to look for from each of the top contending drivers this weekend along with some more notes about NASCAR wagering.

The No. 1 Contender: Kyle Larson (+1000)

The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series Champion, Larson has had a torrid pace in the last couple of races. For instance, at the Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube earlier this month, he finished in second place. Last weekend, the 30-year-old notched a top-five finish. This is juxtaposed with his performances at the beginning of the year where he did not finish higher than 18th place.

The No. 2 Driver: William Byron (+1000)

As mentioned above, Byron has been the star of the NASCAR season so far, at least in the last two races. With back-to-back first-place showings, the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year is on a hot streak. During his young career, the 25-year-old has accrued six wins to his credit along with a stellar 64 top-ten finishes. While he is still in sixth place, expect that to change if he keeps up his winning ways.

The No. 3 Driver: Ross Chastain (+1200)

Chastain has gotten off to a solid start this year, being recognized as a top-three driver in NASCAR to this point. While he has had some hiccup races in his last two outings (12th place and 24th), the 30-year-old is one of NASCAR’s most consistent competitors. The 2022 NASCAR Cup Series runner-up, Chastain started the year on a high note with a top-10 finish at Daytona followed by a third-place mark at the following race, the Pala Casino 400. A racer with two wins to his credit along with 32 top-ten finishes, the Alva, Florida native is a great racer who is looking for more wins to push him over the edge.

Final Contending racer: Christopher Bell (+1200)

Our last racer spotlight, Bell was also the 2017 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion and has had a strong pedigree of top-ten finishes (46 in his career). During the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series, Bell has put together three top-ten finishes thus far (third, fifth, and sixth place) which has spurred his early season success. That said, he did have a disastrous performance at the Pala Casino 400, finishing in 32nd place.

Prediction: Another big race, take Chastain to bounce back here and take home the victory
