The Southeastern Louisiana Lions had a difficult season in 2024 as they went 7-5 under head coach Frank Scelfo, who is now into his eighth season in charge.
Their 2025 campaign started in the worst possible fashion against Louisiana State, as they were thrashed on the road 27-0, where a capitulation in the third quarter cost them massively and their offensive line really let them down.
But the Lions bounced back in week 2 on the road once again as they took on Murray State, and claimed an exciting 45-24 victory. That was then followed up with an even more impressive performance in game week 3 as they hosted Mississippi Valley State in front of a lowly crowd of just over 4,000 fans, and dominated them.
Southeastern Louisiana Lions took an early lead in the first quarter as they went 28-3 up, before scoring 14 points in both the second and third quarter too without reply to waltz to victory and come into this game full of momentum.

LSU enjoyed a decent campaign in 2024 as they were victorious in the Texas Bowl with a 44-31 win over Baylor, while they earned a 9-4 regular season record, finishing 10th in the Southeastern Conference and missing out on a playoff spot.
Head coach Brian Kelly is into his fourth season in charge and will be looking to go one step further this time around, having accumulated a 29-11 record in his first three campaigns. While he has yet to reach the playoffs in any of his previous three seasons, the team have start this season in perfect fashion with a 3-0 record.
Star quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Garrett Nussmeier has returned for his senior season, and led the team to a hard-fought win in the opening game of the campaign against Clemson Tigers despite their underdog status, with a 17-10 victory.
LSU then took on Louisiana Tech in their next game and they cruised to a 23-7 win at home, with Barion Brown getting eight receptions and Nussmeier getting a touchdown as well as going 26/41 with 237 yards. They maintained their 100% record against rivals Florida Gators last time out with another exceptional performance in a 20-10 win to show their solid defensive skills.
This game will undoubtedly be one of the more one-sided matches of the weekend, and the LSU Tigers should find themselves on the right side of it.
Heading into Week 4, Dashawn Spears ranks T6th amongst FBS players for interceptions (2) this season, while LSU ranks T4th among FBS teams for H2 opponent points per game this season (2.3), and 5th among FBS teams for rushing yards allowed per game this season (56.0).
While the Lions have managed 101 points over their last two games, they were coming up against teams who simply aren’t on their level – and the fact of the matter is that they’re not on the level of the LSU Tigers themselves.
NCAAF math isn’t a real thing, but when you consider that the Lions were thumped by Louisiana State while the Tigers cruised to a 23-7 win against the same opponents a week later, you can see the gap.
Whether LSU will be able to cover the spread isn’t so clear cut, but they will no doubt win this game and that’s the safest pick to make in the process.
