Liverpool season so far

The reigning and defending champions started the season perfectly at Anfield, defeating Bournemouth 4-2 thanks to late goals from Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah.

That was followed up with a stunning match-up against Newcastle, where they once again scored an injury-time winner through 16-year-old sensation Rio Ngumoha to maintain their 100% record. A big win over title rivals Arsenal followed next, thanks to a stunning Dominick Szoboszlai free-kick. Salah then got his second goal of the season with a late penalty against Burnley, as the Reds made it four wins from four.

The team started their Champions League campaign next against Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid, and after racing into an early 2-0 lead, they found themselves pulled back to 2-2. Captain Virgil Van Dijk then stepped up and scored a late header, earning the team another late win.

A 2-1 win over local rivals Everton came next in the Merseyside derby, before a late 2-1 win over Championship side Southampton in the Carabao Cup saw them progress to the next round.

Since then, things have gone downhill, and their luck has run out. A trip to Selhurst Park saw the team fall to a late 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace, thanks to Eddie Nketiah’s injury-time volley, before the team travelled to Istanbul to face off against Galatasaray and fell to a 1-0 defeat in the Champions League.

Last time out, the Reds went to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea, but fell to a late defeat to make it three in a row ahead of this game.

Manchester United season so far

The Red Devils had a busy summer transfer window as they looked to rebuild the squad for manager Amorim, but they started the season poorly.

Their opening game of the season came against Arsenal at Old Trafford, but the team fell to a 1-0 defeat thanks to a goalkeeping error from Altay Bayindir, which allowed Riccardo Calafiori to score. The second game saw the team travel to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham, and a Bruno Fernandes missed penalty allowed the team to draw 1-1 after a late goal from the hosts.

The big low point of the season came in the Carabao Cup clash with Grimsby Town, where the team bounced back from 2-0 down to force a penalty shootout, only for new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to both miss and the team to crash out to League Two opposition.

United finally picked up their first win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Burnley, thanks to a 97th-minute penalty by Fernandes. That was followed by a 3-0 thrashing against local rivals Manchester City next, but the team earned a vital win over Chelsea in their next game, winning 2-1 thanks to goals from Fernandes and Casemiro.

The team failed to capitalise on that momentum, however, losing 3-1 to Brentford in their next game with Fernandes missing another penalty, but last time out they picked up a 2-0 win over Sunderland, with new forward Benjamin Sesko netting his second goal of the season in the process.

Soccer picks: Liverpool to win @ -159

Despite three defeats in a row coming into this game, Liverpool should have far too much about them for a struggling Man Utd team here.

History in recent years shows that the Reds are just too strong for United, and with the way Amorim’s side tends to set up, there will be plenty of space in midfield for the team to exploit.

With that said, the visitors tend to save their better performances under this manager for games against better opposition. They’ll look to stay compact, strong, and brave, while looking to counterattack and attack the space behind the Liverpool defence, which has been shaky at best and could potentially be without Ibrahima Konate due to injury.

Manchester United haven’t won back-to-back Premier League games in well over a year, and Liverpool will be keen to bounce back following their recent bad spell. The home advantage will help too, so take the -159 value on them to get back to winning ways.

Soccer picks: Mohamed Salah to score @ +110

Salah hasn’t been anywhere near his standard level this season, but he absolutely loves playing against Manchester United.

The Egyptian king has scored three times so far in this campaign, but his overall performances have been terrible. However, the way Man Utd play will most certainly allow him the opportunity to kickstart his season, and the value of +110 for him to get on the scoresheet is unbelievable.

Salah has scored 16 goals in 17 appearances against the Red Devils in his career, including 11 goals in his last eight games against them. He scored both home and away in the league last season against them, so expect him to do so once again here.
