An honor that crowns the best player returning from injury or some other malady that cut their last season short, the odds for the 2025 NFL Comeback Player of the Year are live at BetOnline. Per a recent rundown from the site, there were a lot of unhappy bettors after Joe Burrow took home Comeback Player of the Year honors last season over Sam Darnold. The Associated Press aimed to have the voters cast their votes for guys who had a great season after returning from injury, and they obliged, and it appears that the “other circumstances” part is now a thing of the past. With all that in mind, BetOnline has released the 2025 Comeback POY odds for the upcoming season, and the favorites are all coming back from injury.

In this article, SBS will be going over what to look for from the latest gaming news coming from BetOnline, along with some additional notes and info coming from the site and beyond.

Hutchinson leads the way for Comeback honors

Per the site, while the BetOnline list is riddled with players who dealt with injuries last season, there is one familiar face who fits a different description. Aaron Rodgers is the only player in the top 10 of this market who did not get injured last season. Additionally, Rodgers was the favorite for this award going into the 2024 season. Moreover, as eligible customers are aware, these odds are subject to change and will be updated in real time at BetOnline

As of this article’s writing, Lions defensive stalwart Aidan Hutchinson is considered the front-runner for the award next season at +200. An awesome player, the Michigan Wolverine was the second overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by Detroit and was named to the All-Rookie Team in 2022. Moreover, he was voted to his first Pro Bowl in 2023. Earlier in the 2024 campaign, the defensive playmaker suffered a severe leg injury in a game against the Cowboys, fracturing both his tibia and fibula. After the early October contest, he underwent immediate surgery with head coach Dan Campbell, estimating a recovery timetable of “four to six months.” Prior to this gruesome injury, Hutchinson had recorded a league-leading 7.5 sacks and 19 total tackles in just five games.

Notable players dot the rest of the BetOnline betting market

At +300, San Francisco running back Christian McCaffrey is another athlete who could make a case this upcoming season. An outstanding player, McCaffrey dealt with a variety of ailments during the 2024 season. During training camp, the star player had issues with his calf and Achilles that kept him out of the 49ers’ season-opening game, despite initial optimism that he would play. He eventually made his return, but on December 1st, his fourth game of the season against the Buffalo Bills, he left the game with a posterior cruciate ligament injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said this injury has an expected six-week recovery time table, effectively ending his regular season. The running back finished 2024 with 348 scrimmage yards and zero touchdowns in four games, compared to over 2,000 the year prior.

At +350, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is also in the mix to potentially make a big return in 2025. A stalwart player, the quarterback ranks seventh all-time in completion percentage with at least 1,5000 pass attempts. Additionally, he is eighth all-time in the NFL’s regular season career passer rating. Following an up-and-down campaign, Prescott injured his hamstring in week nine of the 2024 season. An initial diagnosis revealed a partial avulsion of the right hamstring, which would keep him sidelined for multiple weeks. A tough campaign; his 86.0 passer rating and 1.38-to-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio were all career lows.

Lawrence and Rodgers are other quarterback contenders

In addition to Prescott, there are some other notable names on this list to look out for as far as quarterbacks go. Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence (+400) had a down campaign in 2024 but could be in line for a nice year, especially with new head coach Liam Coen in the mix. Moreover, Rodgers (+1600) was talked about earlier in this list, but his future is murky, even given his exceptional talent as a quarterback.

Meanwhile, Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy missed out on his rookie campaign due to injury, but at +1000, he could be a sleeper choice, especially if he has the same kind of success Sam Bradford had last year in Minnesota. The Vikings are still a strong squad, and divisional foes will not be expecting the new looks from McCarthy
