Nine races remain in the 2025 MotoGP season, and barring some unforeseen circumstances, the 32-year-old Marc Marquez looks poised to win his first MotoGP World Championship since 2019. Marquez, who made the move from Honda to Ducati for the 2024 season, finished in third place overall last year behind Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia. This year, Marquez is in first place with 418 points. In a distant second place is his younger brother Alex Marquez with 276 points. The younger Marquez also rides for Ducati. Bagnaia, who won championships in 2022 and 2023, who also rides for Ducati, is third in the standings with 221 points.
The older Marquez won his sixth straight race in the most recent MotoGP competition in Austria last week. Fermín Aldeguer (Ducati) was the runner-up, while Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) placed third.
This week’s race, the Michelin Grand Prix of Hungary, takes place on the Balaton Park circuit in Budapest. The course is 4.08 km long with 18 total corners. The Balaton Park circuit opened in 2023, and this race marks MotoGP’s first race in Hungary in 33 years.

The six-time MotoGP world champion is likely to reclaim his top spot in 2025. Marc Marquez last won the championship in 2019. Injuries slowed him from 2020 through 2023. He competed in a full slate of races in 2024, starting every race. This year, his second on a Ducati, Marquez has been a dominant force, winning nine races, placing second once, and finishing third once. Marquez has finished on the podium in all but two races in 2025, with a 12th in Spain and not finishing the Grand Prix of the Americas.
Marquez heads into his first race in Hungary on fire, winning the past six MotoGP races.
Alex Marquez has been on the MotoGP circuit since 2020, driving for Ducati since 2023. The younger Marquez started every race in 2024, finishing the season in eighth place, his best-ever placement as a MotoGP rider. Marquez did not win a race between 2020 and 2024. He ended that run in April when he placed first at the Spanish GP.
Marquez might only have one victory this year, but he has been incredibly consistent, finishing in second place in six races. He is coming off his worst finish of the year, placing 10th in Austria.
The two-time MotoGP world champ, and runner-up in 2021 and 2024, Francesco Bagnaia, heads into Budapest as the No. 3 racer in 2025, trailing second-place Alex Marquez by 55 points.
Bagnaia had a fantastic year in 2024, winning 11 races, including the final three contests of the season. Despite that run, he finished 10 points behind Jorge Martin in the standings. Bagnaia started the 2025 season strong, winning one race and finishing no lower than fourth in the first five contests. He followed that with a 16th-place finish in France and a retirement in the British GP. Since then, Bagnaia has three third-place finishes, two fourths, and an eighth-place finish in his most recent start in Austria. He had won his three previous races in Austria.
Bagnaia heads into Budapest finishing outside the top three for the first time in 68 rounds, excluding retirements.
It’s hard to bet against Marc Marquez with how dominant he has been in 2025, but with that dominance comes very little betting value. With the betting odds Marquez is getting, one might be better served to look for Alex Marquez or Francesco Bagnaia to win the 2025 Hungary GP.
The betting pick is for Marc Marquez to win the 2025 Hungary GP, but the betting value is elsewhere.
