As casino gaming grows in Maryland, the last fiscal year is wrapping up, and the results are in as far as it pertains to overall revenue coming back to state programs from the fiscal year 2025. Per a recent article, the Maryland lottery, casinos, sports wagering, and daily fantasy sports generated a combined $1.59bn for state programs and services for fiscal year 2025. This encompasses revenue from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2025. Additionally, according to Maryland Lottery and Gaming, casino gaming contributions totalled $831.3m, lottery $667.2m, and sports wagering and daily fantasy sports $89.9m. The segments delivered an average of $4.35m per day to the state. Of the total contributions, $696.2m was directed to educational programs, comprising the contributions above from the various revenue streams from casinos to fantasy sports and more in the state.

Lottery ticket profits totalled $667.2m, with $519.2m for the state’s General Fund, and $148m across 13 other state funds. Moreover, lottery players won $1.67bn, and Maryland’s six casinos generated $1.97bn in revenue from slot machines and table games.
Maryland Lottery and Gaming director John Martin said, “We focus on fun and games, but we are serious about the role we play in responsibly generating state revenue. We hope we also generate some good times along the way, but supporting vital state programs is never very far from our minds.”
In other state gaming news, the start of the new fiscal year for Maryland casinos is not exactly what operators were hoping for. Per a recent article, after three consecutive down months, the latest figures from the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency show that Maryland’s six commercial casinos generated $165,661,894 in July. Casinos in Maryland not only saw numbers drop in May, but they also suffered a decrease in June and a slight drop in April. Looking back, the report notes, March figures were also down year-over-year. This past month also marked the beginning of the 2025 fiscal year, with the fiscal period running from July 1st through June 30, 2026.
The revenue includes the combined takings from both slot machines and table games at all six gaming establishments in Maryland. Traditionally, July tends to be one of the more lucrative months for the casinos due to increased visitor numbers driven by tourism and seasonal factors. However, the recent figures paint a slightly different picture for 2025, the report notes.
Despite the year-over-year revenue decrease, casino gaming remains a vital contributor to various state funds and initiatives, the article notes. The state contributed $71,857,827, reflecting a minor decrease of 0.4% from the previous year. Of this amount, $51,742,064 was directed toward the Education Trust Fund, slightly down by 0.5% compared to July 2024. Additionally, casino revenues support local communities, Maryland’s horse racing industry, and small, minority-and women-owned businesses.
However, the news is not all bad. Looking at how the individual casinos performed in July 2025, readers will find that the Horseshoe Baltimore Casino fared the best. Meanwhile, the Hollywood Casino also posted strong numbers, but MGM had an off month.
