One of the most iconic figures of all time in pro wrestling, Goldberg is a name that needs little introduction. After a storied career though, the legendary wrestler recently announced he will be returning to WWE soon for his retirement match that will be set for next year. With that in mind, the oddsmakers at MyBookie have tabbed Gunther (-200) as the most likely foe for Goldberg to face after a showdown with Goldberg back in October. A wrestler with a variety of accolades, he is the only wrestler to have won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, WWE’s World Heavyweight Championship, and the WWE Universal Championship. Per a recent report, he headlined the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018 and is a five-time world champion between WWE and WCW.

In this article, SBS will be going over what to look for from the latest gaming news coming from MyBookie along with some additional notes and info regarding the site and beyond.

Gunther marked as favorite among other contenders

Noted at MyBookie, Gunther would be presumed as the most likely contender for Goldberg after having a showdown with the legend last month at Bad Blood. The current World Heavyweight Champion in his first reign, he has been lauded by industry journalists as one of the best wrestlers in the world. In addition to his current reign, he is also the incumbent King of the Ring and the longest-reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion in history. Gunther is one of the strongest wrestlers at this point in WWE with a variety of backgrounds and experience in various promotions across the globe from his native Germany to Japan as well. After signing with WWE in 2018, he won the now-defunct NXT United Kingdom Championship, golding it for a record 870-day reign.

The compelling case for Gunther here as opposed to some other names on the list from MyBookie is that his career is still ascending as one of the top heels in the company. He is noted for being a fantastic worker in the ring so having someone like him tangle with Goldberg, and presumably win, would make a lot of sense in building his stock as a villainous character and his career as a whole. Of course, should this match come to fruition, it would also make sense that a pro like Gunther would be tabbed to fight Goldberg and help the legend go out with a bang in the ring.

Bronson Reed is another name to look out for here

Also noted at MyBookie, while Gunther is the presumed favorite to tangle with Goldberg, relative WWE newcomer Bronson Reed is a dark horse pick to square off with the legendary wrestler at +300. Reed is a former NXT North American Champion and is also the winner of the 2024 Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Even at 36 years of age, he is another rising star in the promotion who could really use this lift if things broke his way and he was slated for a matchup against Goldberg. In addition to his other accolades, the Australian wrestler is a former challenger for the Intercontinental title which leads some to believe he could be getting groomed for the main event scene soon.

Veteran fighters and others in the mix at MyBookie

In addition to the two aforementioned wrestlers above, there are some other names on this list that could be surprising or compelling based on your own professional wrestling opinions. First off the list is another legendary fighter, John Cena (+400). Like Goldberg, Cena’s career needs little introduction. He has been signed to WWE since 2001 and is a record 16-time world champion as recognized by WWE alongside Ric Flair. Moreover, he is also regarded and recognized as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. Cena’s matchup with Goldberg here might be peculiar though as both stars are on the back side of their career and would not have a significant amount to gain other than a “dream matchup” for fans which is not always a bad thing.

Rounding out the top four is another excellent all-time wrestler in Randy Orton (+500). One of Cena’s chief adversaries during both of their primes, “the Viper” could make a powerful run here at Goldberg if their futures were to align. Of course, there is a similar argument to be had about Orton as it is for Cena. While there are other notable names on this list from MyBookie (The Rock, CM Punk), the true longest-odds dark horse here belongs to Bret Hart at +5000. Hart has been very critical of Goldberg’s style over the years after the latter had a really tough time working with the Hitman in WCW including some notorious botches.
