Now with the Finals behind us, the offseason is here and many teams and players have much to think about how they want to vie for a championship during the 2024-25 season. Last season, Young was selected to his third All-Star team and also passed Mookie Blaylock for the most three-pointers made in Hawks franchise history. That said, there should be plenty of teams vying for Young’s services should he opt to head away from Atlanta and the Lakers seem to be the top candidate at +150 per BetUS. Los Angeles would love a splashy new acquisition to pair with LeBron James and Anthony Davis and are clearly ahead of other contenders like the Bulls (+1400) and Mavericks (+2500) for Young’s services.
Another dynamic free agent this offseason is Minnesota’s Karl-Anthony Towns. The former first overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, Towns has been a cornerstone for the Wolves at times and is a former Rookie of the Year along with being a four-time All-Star selection. Moreover, Minnesota is coming off an electric playoff run thanks to the combined powers of Towns, center Rudy Gobert, big man Naz Reid, and burgeoning superstar, Anthony Edwards. Of course, the last piece there could give some insights into why Towns might either stay or go. Of course, this could change if he decides playing second fiddle to a generational talent is worth winning glory at the expense of his own pride. Time will tell, but teams like the Pelicans (+600), Magic (+700), and the Thunder (+500) would love him on their squads.
A three-time NBA All-Star and two-time member of the All-NBA team, Randle has been on the rise since being drafted in the first round back in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Lakers. While the perception of him was mixed after he missed a significant portion of his rookie season due to injury, the former Kentucky Wildcat has come alive in recent years for New York. An All-Star selection in 2021, 2023, and 2024, he was also recognized as the NBA’s Most Improved Player in 2021 during his All-NBA season. After being an integral part of the Knicks roster, one would assume he would want to stay for longer, but squads like the Wizards (+300), the lowly Pistons (+400), and the neighboring Nets (+500) seem intrigued at least according to BetUS. Though he missed part of last season due to injury, his return would significantly help the scrappy Knicks.
Another fascinating player, Brooklyn’s Simmons is a superb athlete who has been slowed by injuries and also a general decline in his performance. Per one report, during the 2022-23 season, the former LSU tiger posted career lows in minutes per game (26.3), points per game (6.9), rebounds per game (6.3), assists, and an abysmal free throw percentage (43.9%). ESPN even went on to describe his performance as “a steep decline from his days as an All-Star.” With even more injuries mounting in 2023-24, one could assume his playing days could be numbered. However, BetUS still thinks Simmons is favored to be on the Nets roster for game one of the 2024-25 season (-500) along with him not retiring before the start of the next campaign (-1000).
It should also be noted though that BetUS thinks Simmons will not play game one of the 2024-25 season at -240.
