Set to kick off later this month, the 2023 Rolex Paris Masters features a loaded men’s singles main-draw bracket with all the top stars squaring off. In the poll position, is a usual familiar favorite in Novak Djokovic. The Joker is having another electric year with three Grand Slam victories and is now back as the unquestioned number-one player in the sport. In what should be an excellent anticipated showdown at this tournament, Alcaraz, the 2023 Wimbledon champion, is looking to win his first-ever Paris Masters victory. Another name to look for here is former No. 1 overall player Daniil Medvedev who is looking to rebound from his performance last year in Paris. Finally, Jannik Sinner is recognized as the fourth overall seed for this field and is a dark horse pick to make some noise in Paris.

In this report, SBS will be going over what to look for from each of these athletes along with a predicted winner and even more tennis notes.

The No. 1 Contender: Novak Djokoivc (Odds: +160)

Djokovic has had a ton of success at the Paris Masters in the past, winning the event three years in a row from 2013-15 and winning the title at this event, a record six times. He then followed up that performance by making the finals of the tournament four out of the last five years, including winning the event in 2019 and 2021. A stellar player, 2023 has been perhaps one of his finest campaigns and that is saying something for the 24-time Grand Slam champion. This year alone he has accrued a record of 46-5 across all the tournaments he has participated in.

The No. 2 Contender: Carlos Alcaraz (Odds: +275)

Perhaps the player that is next in line to assume supremacy once the Joker finally retires, Alcaraz is aiming for his first-ever win at the Paris Masters. The youngest player in tennis history to become the ATP world No.1 athlete, the Spaniard has won six titles in 2023 and made eight different tournament finals. Already with two Grand Slam titles under his belt at just 20 years of age, his best years are ahead of him with many more titles to come. Could this be the year he wins in Paris? He will most likely have to get past Djokovic to do so.

Third Ranked Athlete: Daniil Medvedev (Odds: +800)

Rated as the third overall seed in this tournament, Medvedev has also had a great year in 2023, coming on strong lately with a finals appearance at the 2023 U.S. Open. The winner of the 2021 U.S. Open, he is a former No. 1 overall player in the world and has appeared in five different Grand Slam Finals. Regarding ATP Tour Masters 1000 events, he has won two different tournaments this year, taking home the crown at the Italian and Miami Opens. Moreover, he has also been successful at the Paris Masters before, winning the tournament in 2020

Final contender spotlight: Jannik Sinner (Odds: +1200)

Our last athlete showcase, Sinner is currently ranked as the fourth overall player in the world as of this month and also the fourth seed in this event. Reaching the semifinals for the first time at Wimbledon earlier this year, he has had some great performances but also some uneven ones as seen by his second retirement at the French Open. However, he did win the Canadian Open earlier this year over Alex de Minaur in a solid straight-sets victory.

Prediction: With a sterling record at this tournament, Djokovic is the top pick here given his dominance in Paris and also in 2023 as a whole.
