2019 US Masters Golf Tournament: Rory McIlroy Favorite to Win His First Green Jacket

2019 US Masters Golf Tournament: Rory McIlroy Favorite to Win His First Green Jacket
The 2019 Masters Tournament runs from April 11-14th at the Augsta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia and is the 83rd edition of this massive golf major. The world’s best golfers will be in action, each hoping to get their hands on the famous green jacket. Rory McIlroy is the pre-tournament favorite despite having never won the Masters and the fact he’s not won a major since 2014. Will McIlroy win the US Masters?

Rory McIlroy could return to the number one spot in the golf rankings if he wins the 2019 Masters Tournament at Augusta, that runs between April 11-14th. McIlroy has not one a major since 2014 and his best finish at the Masters is fourth-place, but now could be the time the Irishman gets the proverbial monkey off his back and wins himself the US Masters title.

  • Rory McIlroy is the +750 favorite to win the 2019 Masters Tournament
  • Reigning champion Patrick Reed is a +5000 outsider
  • The legendary Tiger Woods is priced at +1400 to win what would be his fifth Masters
  • Current world number one Dustin Johnson can be wagered on at +1100
  • The Augusta course used to be a plant nursery and each hole is named after a tree or shrub

Rory McIlroy is a +750 Favorite

Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy is the favorite in the Masters golf tournament odds, with Bovada pricing a McIlroy victory at +750. McIlroy has never won the US Masters, the closest he has ever come was in 2015 when he finished in fourth-place.

McIlroy last won a golf major in 2014 when he was crowned the 2014 PGA Championship winner at Valhalla in Louisville, Kentucky. Despite this, he tops the Masters golf 2019 odds and looks to be the man to beat. He recently won the Players Championship and is statistically having his best-ever putting season of his PGA Tour career, plus do not forget he is the only player to finish in the top 10 in each of the previous five Masters.

A victory at the 2019 Masters would seal the career Grand Slam for McIlroy, it just remains to be seen if he can handle the pressure and finally get the job done.

Johnson, Rose and Woods Should Not Be Written Off

The current Masters golf players odds suggest you should not write off the chances of Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose or the legendary Tiger Woods. Johnson is +1100 in the Masters betting, with both Rose and Woods available at +1400.

Johnson was one of the favorites to win the 2017 Masters but fell down the stairs in his rental home and injured himself. He’s never finished higher than fourth at the Masters, like McIlroy. Perhaps a little worrying for fans of Johnson is he looked unusually nervy on the final day of the recent Valspar Championship and eventually finished T-6 when he really should have won.

Rose loves playing in the Masters and is +1400 with the Vegas odds golf Masters, which looks to be a bargain when you consider the Englishman’s record at Augusta. Rose has entered the Masters on 13 occasions, finished in the top 25 places 11-times, has five top 10s and was the runner-up in both 2015 and 2017.

Four-time Masters champion Woods is available with betting odds of +1400 but these could be a little too short as Woods has legions of fans who wager on him regardless, which brings the price down. That said, Woods almost returned to the world top 10 ranking this year and looks to have returned to form in regards to strokes gained approach the green, but the fact he withdrew from the Arnold Palmer Invitational with a neck strain makes us doubt Woods’ fitness. A fit Woods has a chance of Masters glory, an injured Woods certainly does not.

Masters Outsiders to Consider

Realistically, the 2019 Masters is likely to be won by McIlroy, Johnson or Rose, as the betting suggests, but it is also worth taking a look at some of the outsiders because anything can and will happen over the 72-par course.

Jordan Spieth is available at +2200 and that may seem like a bargain price considering he has a win and two runner-up finishes in his first three Masters. Spieth opened wit a 66 and closed with a 64 at last year’s Masters only to finish third overall. The only problem here is Spieth is in the middle of a massive slump and cannot seem to do anything correct. From eight starts this year on the PGA Tour, Spieth’s best finish is T-35.

Rickie Fowler is another players with Masters betting odds of +2200 and could be worth a small wager to win the Masters. Fowler was the runner-up to Patrick Reed at the 2018 Masters, his fourth top 12 finish at the Masters in the past five years. There is a question mark over Fowler’s ability on the biggest stages as he is still searching for that elusive first major despite entering his 30s. Could this be the one?

A real outsider, with odds of +4000, is Bubba Watson, who has won the Masters twice in 2012 and 2014. Watson has two top-five finishes this season thanks in part to being ranked second for strokes gained off-the-tee, but his putting has been nothing short of terrible; he ranks 166th in strokes gained putting. Should Watson be able to alter his putting, he could be a real contender at the 2019 Masters.
