Stanley Cup Finals 2019: Boston Bruins Favorites With Series Tied 2-2

Stanley Cup Finals 2019: Boston Bruins Favorites With Series Tied 2-2
Boston Bruins are still the favorites to be crowned the 2019 Stanley Cup champions despite falling to a 4-2 defeat in Game 4 to tie the series at 2-2. Bruins are looking for their seventh Stanley Cup title while the St. Louis Blues are hoping to shake off their 100% losing record in the finals.

The excitement has reached fever pitch in the 2019 Stanley Cup finals as the Boston Bruins and St. Louis Blues are even poised with the series tied 2-2. The Bruins have Stanley Cup odds of -150 with our friends at Bovada while the Blues find themselves as +130 outsiders despite a convincing 4-2 victory in Game 4. Can the Bruins get back to winning ways in Game 5 and march onto their seventh Stanley Cup title?

  • Boston Bruins’ NHL Stanley Cup odds are -150 making them a substantial favorite
  • St. Louis Blues have +130 odds to win the Stanley Cup
  • Boston Bruins are playing in their 20th Stanley Cup final. They have won six and lost 13 previously.
  • St. Louis Blues have a 0-3 record in the Stanley Cup and are playing in their first finals since 1970
  • Boston Bruins demolished the St. Louis Blues in Game 3 with the game finishing 7-2

Boston Bruins Are Still Huge Favorites To Win The Stanley Cup

Boston Bruins are an NHL team steeped in history and one that has reached the finals of the coveted Stanley Cup 20 times; only the Toronto Maples Leafs, Detroit Red Wings and Montreal Canadiens have competed in more finals.

Fans of the Boston Bruins enjoyed most of their success in the 1970s, winning two Stanley Cup titles and reaching five finals in total. Perhaps worrying for Bruins supporters is the fact they have only one one of the previous seven Stanley Cup finals, that coming in 2011 in a thrilling 4-3 series win over Vancouver Canucks.

The Bruins are now substantial -150 favorites to win what would be their seventh Stanley Cup title despite the current series with the St. Louis Blues tied at two games apiece. Bruins won Game 1 by 4-2, lost Game 2 by a score of 3-2 but then turned on the style to win 7-2 in Game 3. The last game played ended 4-2 in favor of the St. Louis Blues.

Game 5 takes place in Boston to give the Bruins home rink advantage. The Boston Bruins were exceptional on home soil during the regular season, ending with a 29-9-3 record, only the Tampa Bay Lightning, who topped the Eastern Conference, lost fewer games at home.

Everything points towards a Boston Bruins victory and with -150 Vegas odds, Stanley Cup finalists Boston Bruins should get the job done in Game 5 to put the ball firmly in their own court, so to speak. Game 4’s result put the proverbial cat among the pigeons and shuffled up the Series Correct Score market. A 4-2 and 4-3 series win for the Boston Bruins now weighs in at +215 with the number of Games Played in the Series coming at -125 for six games and -115 for seven games.

St. Louis Blues Finally Win a Stanley Cup Finals Game At Home

The St. Louis Blues reached the finals of the Stanley Cup in three consecutive seasons. The Blues competed in 1968, 1969 and 1970 only to find themselves finishing as runners-up on all three occasions.

In 1968, the St. Louis Blues fell 4-0 to Montreal Canadiens, which was the same scoreline in the 1969 Stanley Cup Finals. Again, in 1970, the St. Louis Blues disappointed in the final, losing 4-0 to the Boston Bruins.

This meant the St. Louis Blues had never won a game at home during the Stanley Cup finals and were 0-3 against the Boston Bruins. That unwanted and disappointing record stretched to 0-4 when the Blues were severely outclassed in Game 3 when the Boston Bruins scored seven goals to the Blues’ mere two.

St. Louis Blues finally rid themselves of this ridiculous record in Game 4 when they ran out 4-2 winners thanks to a brace of goals from Ryan O’Reilly and a goal apiece for Brayden Schenn and Vladimir Tarasenko. While this will fill the Blues with confidence, the Bruins should simply be too strong for them over the next couple of games and this could be all wrapped up by Game 6.

Bruins Looking For Revenge in Game 5

The Boston Bruins know there were not at their glistening best in Game 4 and the St. Louis Blues thoroughly deserved their victory to tie the Stanley Cup finals at 2-2.

You only have to look at the top 10 skaters based on points at the conclusion of Game 4 to see how strong offensively the Boston Bruins are. Brad Marchand tops the charts with 21 points and they also have Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak on 17 points each, with Charlie Coyle on 16.

The St. Louis Blues have three players in the top 10, namely Jaden Schwartz on 18, Ryan O’Reilly on 18 and Vladimir Tarasenko with 16.

It could be a series where having the best goaltender comes into the equation. The Boston Bruins have the amazing Finnish superstar Tuukka Rask tending their goal. The Bruins have won 13 of the 21 games Rask has been in goal and the Finn is averaging only 1.96 goals against and has a .938 save percentage.

With Rask in goal and the amazing attacking players, the Bruins have at their disposal, a 4-2 Bruins series victory at +215 looks a solid bet to make.
