Zion Williamson is Favorite to be the 2019 NBA Draft Number One Pick
The 2019 NBA Draft takes place on Thursday 20th June and the NBA draft lottery odds point towards the New Orleans Pelicans using their first pick to secure the services of Zion Williamson, who has the potential to become one of the NBA greats.
- The New Orleans Pelicans won the NBA Draft lottery to secure the first pick of the players
- Memphis Grizzlies secured the number two pick
- Zion Williamson looks set to be the 2019 NBA Draft first pick
- Ja Morant, a Murray State guard, should be the second pick
- Duke's R.J. Barrett is the second favorite to be the second pick and head to the Memphis Grizzlies
New Orleans Set To Secure The Services of Zion Williamson
New Orleans Pelicans won the 2019 NBA Draft lottery first pick despite only having a six percent chance of doing so and everything is pointing towards Zion Williamson heading to the Pelicans.
The Pelicans went 33-49 last season and need some significant reinforcements, especially as Anthony Davis has demanded a trade. Davis is vital to any potential success of the Pelicans. At the time of his trade request, the Pelicans were ranked fifth for offensive efficiency but fell to 27th in the standings after that point.
Williamson could be just what the New Orleans Pelicans need. The 6-6 280lbs Power Forward played college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils and is a -300 favorite to be the first pick. You will find odds of +500 on Williamson not heading to New Orleans; do not waste your money on this because Williamson is heading to the Pelicans.
Experts agree that Williamson is the real deal and he is the most exciting player to enter the draft since LeBron James was drafted first back in 2013. When he joins the NBA, Williamson will be the second-heaviest player so has the physique to hit the ground running.
In his year with Duke, Williamson averaged 2.1 assists per game, 2.1 steals per game, and an impressive 22.6 points per game. Exciting times are ahead for fans of the New Orleans Pelicans.
Ja Marant Should Be The Number Two Pick
Ja Morant in a 19-year-old Point guard who played his basketball at Murray State Racers and is highly tipped to be the second pick of the first round, meaning the South Carolina native should by playing professional basketball for the Memphis Grizzlies this coming season.
Morant is -200 with most online bookmakers to be the second pick of the first round and we cannot argue with those NBA draft odds. Morant stands at 6-1, tops the scales at 175lbs and is a dynamic athlete who is a fantastic playmaker.
During his sophomore year, Morant averaged at least 20 points and 10 assists per game over the course of the season, becoming the first player in NCAA history to do so.
The Grizzlies are under new management and in need of someone who is capable of averaging 20 points per game and Morant has the potential to be that player.
Which Players Could Be Number 2 Pick?
We have already ascertained that Zion Williamson is all but guaranteed to be first pick, and it looks likely Ja Morant is going to be the second pick, but pick two is not as clear cut.
Several players are in the running to be number two pick, including Duke's R.J. Barrett with the small forward being priced around +150. These odds make it more likely that Barrett will be pick number three and heading to the New York Knicks who were, frankly, absolutely terrible last season.
Longer odds of +1400 can be had on Virginia's DeAndre Hunter being the second pick, but as this stands it looks like Hunter could be joining the L.A. Lakers as the fourth overall pick.
With these things considered, it looks a two-man race between Barrett and Barrett to be the number two pick. The Memphis Grizzlies need a player more in the mold of Morant than Barrett, so back the +150 on Marant being number two pick.
Another bet you could look into is to back the -120 odds on there being more than 10.5 trades on draft day. 2018 saw nine trades completed, but the average is 11.8 trades over the past five years, with over 10.5 being his three times since 2014.
Finally, great NBA draft odds of +155 can be had on over 2.5 Duke players being signed during the first round. The aforementioned Williamson and Barrett look certain to be in the top three picks, while Cameron Reddish should come in at number eight and head to the Atlanta Hawks, making this an almost lock in.
