Liverpool Are Hot Favorites To Win The All English UEFA Champions League Final
It is the Wanda Metropolitano stadium in the Spanish capital of Madrid that plays host to the 2019 UEFA Champions League final between Liverpool and Totteham Hotspur, the first time since the 2007-08 season that two English Premier League sides have reached the final of club soccer’s biggest stage.
Liverpool’s Champions League odds to lift the trophy, including extra time and penalties if needed, are -200 with Spurs the +165 outsiders. Does that represent great value? Now is the time to find out.
- Liverpool at -105 favorites to win in 90 minutes and -200 to lift the trophy by any means
- Tottenham Hotspur are +305 to win the game in 90 minutes and +165 to get their hands on the Champions League trophy
- Liverpool have won the Champions League five times. Victory here would see them become the third most successful Champions League team in history
- Tottenham last won a European trophy during the 1983-84 season when they lifted the UEFA Cup
- Both teams were involved in dramatic semi-finals that saw them come back from behind to clinch victory
Liverpool Looks Set For Their Sixth Champions League Trophy
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool go into their second consecutive UEFA Champions League final hoping to avenge their defeat in 2018. The Reds reached the Champions League final last season, but fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Real Madrid thanks in part to a horror show from goalkeeper Loris Karius; the German ‘keeper has since been sold and replaced.
Liverpool narrowly made it through their group before turning on the style in the knockout rounds. A convincing 3-1 victory over Bayern Munich set up a quarter-finals clash with Porto and they demolished them 6-1 on aggregate.
The best was yet to come with a semi-final tie against Barcelona. Liverpool lost the first leg 3-0 and looked dead and buried, only to win the second leg 4-0 to progress to their ninth UEFA Champions League final.
The Reds have three minor injury concerns although all three should be passed fit for the final. Andrew Robertson, Roberto Firmino and Naby Keita are all suffering knocks but have estimated return dates of June 1st.
Liverpool are firm favorites and rightly so. We believe the trophy is heading back to Merseyside.
Tottenham Hotspur Need Harry Kane Fit
Tottenham Hotspur, like Liverpool, only just made it through to the knockout stages and then excelled once they had done so. A 4-0 aggregate win over Borussia Dortmund saw Spurs draw 4-4 with tournament favorites Manchester City but progress on the away goals rule. A thrilling semi-final with Ajax of Amsterdam saw them lose 1-0 in the first leg then win 3-2 in the Netherlands to again progress on the away goals ruling.
Spurs have six injury doubts, although they are all hoping to be fit. Dele Alli, Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose, Davison Sanchez, Harry Winks and talismanic striker Harry Kane are all slight doubts to reach the final, but all six will likely play through the pain barrier to make it across the white line.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men have Champions League winner odds +165 to emerge victories, including extra time and penalties and this does seem good value. Much hinges on the London side being able to pass Kane fit because the England national team captain has score 27 goals in 46 appearances during this injury-hit season, including five goals in the Champions League.
Bets To Look At For the 2019 Champions League Final
Aside from the outright betting, where Liverpool is -105 and Tottenham are +305, there are some other betting markets you should look at as they could yield a tidy profit.
Consider that the last six games between Liverpool and Spurs have triggered the over 2.5 goals market with two of them finishing with over 3.5 goals. Only once in those six previous matches has both teams failed to score.
Bovada price both teams to score and there being over 2.5 goals at +110 with both teams to score coming in at -140. You could also look at a Liverpool victory and over 2.5 goals at +200 as Liverpool have won four of the last six encounters between these two sides.
Those of you looking to bet on the goalscorers should look no further than the +150 offered on Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane scoring the first goal. The Liverpool pair have 53 goals between them this season with Salah scoring six goals in his last eight games and Mane finding the back of the net five times over the same period.
Incidently, both Salah and Mane are the +400 favorites to score the first goal.
It is also worth a small bet on Kane scoring at any time during the match as this price is +160. Although a slight doubt to play this game, nothing is going to stop Kane from getting on the pitch at some point and what better way to mark his return than with a goal on the biggest stage?
