Best Picks for NFL’s Week #3

Best Picks for NFL’s Week #3
It's hard to believe that two NFL weeks are already in the books, but that's where we are. Time to focus on these Week 3 lines and find our best plays. As usual, I'll dig into the top games according to wagering value. Here we go.

A quick glance at the Week 3 board shows that of the 13 lines posted this Sunday (no line yet posted on the Titans/Jags game), 10 home field teams are favored. That’s a pretty strong statement from the linemakers in Vegas, but what exactly does it say?

To me, it may suggest that the lines are simply weak and that home teams are getting a bit too much credit in the absence of other quality information. Thus, the strategy will be to find the best 3 road dogs and roll the dice. Here are the 3 point spreads we will take a closer look at:

TOP 3 Road Underdogs

  • Cincinnatti + 3 at Carolina
  • Buffalo +17 at Minnesota
  • San Francisco +6.5 at Kansas City

Best Bet

Let’s start with what I think is the best bet of Week 3. The 49’ers (1-1) were a dark horse pick to make some noise this season and that hasn’t changed after splitting their first two games. The bettors and oddsmakers are probably giving KC too much credit after two dominating offensive performances and it just feel like the right time to jump on the opposite side here.

It looks like this game could turn into a shoot-out as the boys from the west coast travel to KC and I like the fact that we’ll have 6.5 to work with. I’ll stop short of saying San Fran wins this game outright, but I think they’ll be able to compete every step of the way in a tight and high-scoring game.

Let’s go with San Fran +6.5

Next-best play

The Bills are bad and the Vikings are good. That’s starting with the obvious as Buffalo travels to Minnesota for a game that looks like a sure win for the boys in purple. But aren’t these still professonal football teams? Buffalo showed signs of improvement last week against the Chargers after being obliterated by the Raves in Week 1. I’m thinking that horrid Week 1 performance is still lingering in the minds of gamblers everywhere, but I also think the Buffalo secondary improves enough to keep things closer than most expect.

Let’s take Buffalo +17

Another pick to click

The Bengals have looked unexpectedly solid in the first two weeks and start the season 2-0, backing their good preseason form. I think they reasonably have a better team than Carolina, so they wrong squad is favored in this game. If Vegas is going to gift us three points, why not take them up on the offer?

Play Cincinnatti +3
