Best NL West Betting Sites

The National League West was formed during the 1969 season when the National League expanded, and it is one of the more evenly matched divisions. It was the Atlanta Braves – now in the National League East – who won the first divisional title in 1969, and the Los Angeles Dodgers who finished on top in 2015. The Dodgers are the most successful National League West team thanks to their 14 championships, including a spell of four titles between 1977 and 1983.  [+]

In terms of division titles won, the Dodgers’ closest rivals are the San Francisco Giants, with eight titles, followed by the San Diego Padres, with five, the same total as the Diamondbacks. The only team in the current NL West not to have won the division are the Colorado Rockies, although they have only been a franchise since 1993.

Of the current NL West Division, only the Dodgers, Giants, and Diamondbacks have won a World Series. The Giants have eight World Series titles, the Dodgers have won six, while the Diamondback won their one and only World Series in 2001.

How To Win At National League West Betting

The National League West has become one of the most competitive divisions in baseball. Los Angeles has dominated the division, winning four straight NL West crowns.

It also doesn’t hurt to have the best pitcher in the major leagues on the mound, either. Clayton Kershaw, who won the NL Cy Young Award as the league’s top pitcher in 2014, had a remarkable 2016 campaign and finished with a 12-4 record before an injury sidelined the star hurler.

When Kershaw toes the rubber, it is not a bad idea to put your money on the Dodgers, who are an even better team on home field. Los Angeles ended 2016 with a 53-28 record at Dodger Stadium. Despite their regular-season success, the Dodgers have not been able to carry it over into the playoffs. Los Angeles has won just one playoff series in four years, defeating the Washington Nationals in the 2016 NLDS.

While the Dodgers and San Francisco Giants have dominated the division, a team to keep a close eye on is the Arizona Diamondbacks. The club, which got off to a sizzling start in 2017, boasts a superb starting rotation led by ace Zack Greinke — a former Cy Young Award winner in the American League.

Paul Goldschmidt — the D-Back’s star first baseman — is quietly becoming one of the best pure hitters in the game, consistently averaging above .300 at the plate while displaying long-ball power as well. The Diamondbacks ranked among the top clubs in runs during the 2017 season and are considered to be legitimate World Series contenders with its current lineup.

The Colorado Rockies, who have never won a World Series but played in the Fall Classic in 2007, are also on the rise. The Rockies benefit from playing in a home-run friendly park, but haven’t been able to capture the same success on the road.

Unlike the other divisions in the National League, games in the NL West are often determined one-run, low-scoring games. Much of that is because of strong pitching among the teams in the division.
