One of two New York-based Major League Baseball teams, the Mets have a storied history that includes two World Series championships. The organization was established in 1962 as an expansion team to replace the National League’s departing Brooklyn Dodgers. The Mets captured its first title in 1969 when the club defeated the Baltimore Orioles in the World Series. Many years passed before New York made its next title run, in 1986 when the Mets defeated the Boston Red Sox in seven games to capture the World Series. [+]

It’s been more than 30 years since the Mets last won a championship despite being close on two occasions. The Mets were part of the 2000 Subway Series against cross-league rivals New York Yankees. After finishing with a record of 94-68, they went on to lose to the Yankees in five games in the World Series. The Mets returned to the championship in 2015 to face the American League’s Kansas City Royals. Again, the Mets went on to lose in five games, further extending the franchise’s championship drought.

Former Mets outfielder Daryl Strawberry is the franchise leader in home runs with 252. David Wright’s 1,777 total hits also stands as a franchise best. Pitcher Tom Seaver spent nearly 12 seasons with the Mets and holds the club record in career wins with 198.

How To Win At New York Mets Betting

The New York Mets remain in a position to win now. With power bats Yoenis Cespedes and Jay Bruce in the heart of the Mets’ batting order, the club’s offense ranks among the best in the National League. Led by manager Terry Collins, the Mets were once again one of the top teams in home runs during the 2016 campaign.

The area of concern for the Mets has surprisingly been on the mound. Once considered to have one of the best rotations in the NL, there’s many question marks surrounding Mets’ starting rotation. The team’s ace Jacob DeGrom has struggled to stay healthy, finishing the 2016 season with a 7-8 record. Matt Harvey hasn’t been much better over the past two seasons, capping off a frustrating 2016 campaign with a 4.86 ERA.

When putting your money on the Mets, take the over on total home runs against weaker teams or in NL parks that are known for having a high-rate of long balls, such as Coors Field in Colorado.

Can the Mets repeat their success from 2015 and return to the World Series sooner than later? If DeGrom and Harvey can solve their pitching woes and stay healthy, the Mets will be a force to be reckoned with heading forward.
