When you think of the Baltimore Orioles, one name comes to mind: Cal Ripken Jr. The Hall of Fame shortstop was the face of the franchise for more than two decades before hanging up his cleats in 2001. Ripken Jr. spent his entire career in a Baltimore Orioles uniform, helping the club capture a World Series in 1983 as well as three East Division titles. During that 1983 playoff run, the O’s defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in five games to capture the franchise’s third World Series crown. It’s the last time the club has won the championship. [+]

Since then, there have been up and down seasons for the Orioles, who won their last East Division title in 2014 and earned a wild-card berth in 2016.

The organization was founded in 1901 and based in Baltimore since 1954 when the team relocated from St. Louis.

Ripken Jr. still holds several team record, including hits (3,184), doubles (603) and RBIs (1,695). The 19-time all-star was also an ironman, playing more than 3,000 games during his illustrious career. Jim Palmer — an Oriole from 1965 to 1984 — racked up 284 victories on the mound, which still stands as a franchise best.

How To Win At Baltimore Orioles Betting

Ask most old-school baseball purists and they will tell you that the Baltimore Orioles play in the best stadium in the game. When Oriole Park at Camden Yards was opened in 1992 with its retro feel and downtown location, the ballpark signalled an end to the concrete monoliths that had housed major league teams and launched a trend which has been imitated in other parks since constructed such as Detroit's Comerica Park and Houston's Minute Maid Park.

Another thing we'll bet you didn't know about the Orioles - they are the only team in Major League Baseball to feature a hat on their hat. The Oriole on the front of Baltimore's ballcap is wearing a Baltimore Orioles cap.

When you check the standings in the American League East division every day, get used to see the Orioles at or near the top for years to come.

That’s because the team boasts one of the most exciting offenses in the Major Leagues, led by superstar third baseman Manny Machado, who had a spectacular 2016 campaign. Machado hit 37 home runs and 96 RBI.

If you’re putting your money down on the Orioles, know one thing for sure — the club loves to hit the long ball. In fact, the club had three players that crushed 35 or more home runs in 2016 with Machado, Chris Davis and Mark Trumbo all among the league’s best long ball hitters. That translated to impressive plate statistics for the Orioles, who had the third-best slugging percentage (.443) in MLB.

As strong as Baltimore is offensively, the club is recognized for having a shut-down bullpen featuring one of the best closers in the game in Zach Britton. The ninth-inning stopper was a perfect 47 for 47 in save situations during the 2016 season.

In a ultra-competitive American East, can the Orioles win the division and eventually contend for a World Series? Under veteran manager Buck Showalter leading the team, the Orioles will be in good hands for years to come.
