New York Knicks at Detroit Pistons (-6)

D-Rose

This is the rubber match between the two. Detroit (32-33) won the first matchup at home by 13 points, before New York (26-39) came back and won by three. Both meetings were in November, though, and a lot has changed.

The Pistons are riding high after beating the defending NBA champion Cavaliers by five points in a game where all five starters hit double digits in scoring. Detroit is clinging to the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference with 17 games remaining.

The key to the game is likely the battle between Andre Drummond and Willy Hernangomez. Drummond is second in the NBA in rebounds with 13.8 per game, but he’ll be in a battle with Hernangomez. The rookie has been a bright spot for New York. Filling in for the injured Joakim Noah, Hernangomez has notched at least nine boards in five of his past seven games.

We’ll give the former All-Star Drummond the advantage in the clash, as he helps Detroit cover the six-point spread. The Knicks are simply too inconsistent to ever put faith in.

Pick: Pistons (-6)

Over/Under 202.5 points: New Orleans Pelicans at Charlotte Hornets

When the Pelicans (25-40) acquired DeMarcus Cousins at the All-Star break, New Orleans turned from proverbial losers to playoff contenders in the eyes of many.

However, that hasn’t quite panned out yet. Since the blockbuster trade, the Pelicans have dropped six of eight. Moreover, Cousins is showing the same signs of immaturity that plagued him in Sacramento. He just paid a $50,000 for talking inappropriately to fans.

The Cousins and Anthony Davis experiment is going to take time — probably an entire offseason — to work out the kinks. In the meantime, use the chemistry issues to your advantage. New Orleans has hit the under an eye-popping 10 times in their past 11 games.

Charlotte’s (29-36) offense is forgettable, too. They average a modest 104.7 per game, which ranks 18th in the league. The Hornets offense is driven by two players — Kemba Walker and Nicolas Batum. Together, the duo averages 38.5 points a game. But after them, it’s a steep drop off. All indications point toward an under here.

Pick: Under

Philadelphia 76ers at Los Angeles Clippers (-12.5)

DJ

Believe it or not, there’s no team playing against the spread than Philadelphia (23-41). Maybe bookies aren’t giving the franchise enough credit or “the process” is finally working, but the 76ers’ 39-25 mark on spreads is the best in the NBA.

With that said, we don’t like them in this matchup at all. Philadelphia is only 16-14 against the spread on the road — while they are 23-11 at home. Moreover, this is a complete mismatch.

The Sixers will be without big men Joel Embiid and Tiago Splitter. That will prove to be a huge disadvantage against DeAndre Jordan, who enters the game averaging 12.2 points and 13.5 rebounds a contest. It’s a large spread, but Los Angeles (39-26) should cover.

Pick: Clippers (-12.5)
