D.C. United are one of the 10 charter clubs of Major League Soccer, having competed in every season since the league’s creation. The team, who play out of the RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C., are the most decorated club in MLS, with 13 domestic and international titles since 1995. However, the vast majority of this success stems from the early years of MLS. Eight of D.C. United’s titles came between 1996 and 1998 under the guidance of head coach Bruce Arena. [+]

Among the titles won by D.C. United are the CONCACAF Champions League, four MLS Cups, and four Supporters’ Shields.

United’s last MLS Cup victory was 12 years ago, in 2004, with its last Supporters’ Shield coming in 2007.

The 2014 season saw D.C. United finish with a 17-9-8 record, with their home form being particularly impressive. They lost two fixtures at home for an 11-2-4 record.

D.C. United were just as impressive at home in 2015 (11-3-3), but a 4-10-3 away record prevented them from finishing higher than fourth in the Eastern Conference.

The club has huge support thanks to their early success and hit the headlines around the world in 2004 when it gave a professional contract to Freddy Adu, who was only 14 at the time.

How To Win At DC United Betting

DC United qualified for the 2016 playoffs as the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference, mostly thanks to their excellent home form. United lost only four games on home soil, winning nine and drawing four. They took 31 of a possible 51 points from home encounters. While it wasn’t the best home record in the league, it was certainly proficient enough to carry them as a home seed into the playoffs.

They were surprisingly ousted in the first round of the playoffs by an in-form Montreal team, who had to play in Washington. It made the occasion even more memorable for Montreal, while DC United would love to forget the 4-2 defeat.

United’s away form was an entirely different kettle of fish. Winning only two of 17 games on the road, United loathed playing in hostile environments. The team’s only saving grace was the fact that they were able to draw a league-high nine games in enemy territory. United may have found themselves on the outside of the playoff picture looking in had they lost a couple more.

DC United had the fourth best offesne and the third most proficient defensive record in the Eastern Conference. You’ll have to dig a little deeper to find out whether to bet on the over or under for individual games. Consider whether they’re on the road and whether the team have any concerning injuries.

I would currently avoid backing them as futures targets. Until they improve their dismal away record, there’s almost no chance of lifting the MLS Cup.
