There hasn’t been a more exciting Premier League club to watch over the last five years than Manchester City. Founded in 1880 as St. Mark’s, they became Arwick Association Football Club in 1887 before changing their name to Manchester City in 1894. The team moved to City of Manchester Stadium in 2003 after playing all their home games at Maine Road since 1923. City had its most successful run in the late 1960s and early 1970s, winning the League Championship, FA Cup, League Cup and European Cup Winners’ Cup. [+]

Despite falling on hard times, Manchester City regained Premier League status in the early 2000s. Their last Premier League crown came in 2013-14 when Manchester City defeated West Ham on the last day of the season to win the title over second-place Liverpool. It wasn’t the first time City won a Premier League crown on the final day of the season. During the 2011-12 campaign, stoppage-time goals from Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero lifted Manchester City to a 3-2 win over Queen’s Park Rangers and gave them their first Premier League championship.

In 2016, Forbes Magazine estimated that Manchester City was the sixth-most valuable football club, worth $1.92 billion.

Eric Brook remains the franchise’s all-time scoring leader with 177 goals. However, Aguero is slowly creeping up that list with a total of 136 goals heading into the 2016-17 season.

Alan Oakes, who played for City from 1959 to 1976, is the franchise’s all-time leader in appearances with 676.

How To Win At Man. City Betting

Man City endured a relatively inconsistent time during Pep Guardiola’s first season in charge. City started the season the best of any Premier League team, shooting off like a rocket from the onset. However, reality struck thereafter, showing Gurdiola how difficult life is in the Premier League.

He promotes a play-out-of-the-back style that has to be executed perfectly. Otherwise, mistakes can directly lead to opposition chances, which is exactly what happened to City on a regular basis. John Stones showed his inexperience by making numerous errors that cost City points. And with club captain Vincent Kompany out for most of the season, Nicolas Otamendi stepped in to try steady the ship.

He didn’t exactly fill the massive void left by Kompany’s absence, and committed multiple mistakes at crucial points to City’s overall detriment. For City to have a chance at the Premier League title, Kompany must stay healthy and play on a consistent basis.

City finished third in the top flight and qualified for the Champions League, a feat Guardiola had to accomplish to save his blushes. The Manchester side were thoroughly disappointing at the Etihad Stadium, finishing the season with only the sixth best home record. Like their cross-city rivals, City drew way too many home games. They only lost once at home but drew seven matches, dropping 14 points in the table.

City, however, were dominant on the road and enjoyed the second best away record in the Premier League. They gained 38 of a possible 57 away points, behind only Chelsea in the table. City lost only two away games, which was the league’s best mark. If they can replicate that kind of road form in coming seasons, City will most certainly win the title in the foreseeable future.

Guardiola also needs to admit to himself that a lackluster defense will not cut it in England. He can play all the pretty football he wants, but they’ll never win a title without a stable, stout defense. Let’s see if takes strides to improve a defense which allowed more goals than Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United.

City have to win a trophy in the next season or two to ensure Guardiola keeps his job. It’s a ruthless ownership group that will not tolerate going another few seasons without silverware, especially considering how much City spends on the transfer market each season.
