Best San Jose Sharks Betting Sites

For the first time in more than a decade, San Jose missed the playoffs in 2014-15, costing coach Todd McLellan his job. Most experts expected that would be it for some of the veteran Sharks, and that general manager Doug Wilson would blow things up and launch a rebuild with youth. Instead, Wilson doubled down, adding veteran forward Joel Ward and defenseman Paul Martin to his team. He rolled the dice by trading a first-round draft pick for solid but young and unproven goalie Martin Jones from the Kings, their Pacific Division rivals. [+]

The end result was San Jose’s most successful season in years. Jones helped eliminate his old team in the opening round of the playoffs, the Sharks got on a roll, reached the Stanley Cup final for the first time in franchise history and Fear The Fin was once more a part of the NHL vernacular.

The Sharks go three deep in captains, and on occasion, all three are on the ice at the same time, generally when the Sharks go to the power play.

Joe Pavelski is San Jose’s current captain, ascending to the position to begin the 2015-16 season, the first under coach Peter DeBoer. San Jose played the entire 2014-15 campaign minus a captain and the Sharks’ rudderless ship missed the playoffs for the first time since 2002-03.

From 2010-11 to 2013-14, Joe Thornton served as team captain. Patrick Marleau filled the role from 2005-06 to 2008-09. Marleau was also part of a four-player rotating captain system with Mike Ricci, Vincent Damphousse and Alyn McCauley during the 2003-04 season.

San Jose Sharks Scores & Schedule

You will find all of the San Jose Sharks scores as well as their schedule of upcoming games right here and during the 2015-16, the Sharks were an NHL anomaly.  [+]

The Sharks were a vastly more successful team away from home, winning 28 road games to lead all NHL teams, but that’s not an usual trait for San Jose. It was the third successive season they’d posted a winning road mark and 20-plus wins on the road. In fact, the Sharks won at least 20 games on the road eight times between 2006-07 and 2015-16.

On the flip side, NHL teams knew the way to San Jose in 2015-16 and were happy to make the trip. The Sharks were a disappointing 18-20-3 at the Shark Tank, their first losing home campaign since 1997-98. San Jose’s 18 home victories was the lowest total among the 16 teams that qualified for the Stanley Cup playoffs.

San Jose Sharks Standings Right Now

The up-to-the-minute San Jose Sharks standings are right here and during the 2015-16 NHL season, the Sharks were one of three teams from the division to garner a minimum of 46 wins. [+]

Two things that are important to know about the Sharks – they tend to win close games and they generally keep the lead in a game once they acquire an advantage. San Jose was 17-8-6 in one-goal games, and the Sharks were 25-4-0 when leading after 20 minutes. If they carried that advantage through two periods, San Jose was virtually unbeatable, going 28-0-2.

How To Win At San Jose Sharks Betting

The Sharks displayed an uptick in virtually every category during the 2015-16 season. They improved from 20th to a tie for eighth in the league in wins. The Sharks jumped from 15th to fifth overall in goals scored, and from 23rd to 10th best in goals against.

San Jose’s penalty kill improved from 25th to 21st in the NHL and the Sharks led all NHL teams in road wins (28) and road points (59). Individually, captain Joe Pavelski led the NHL with nine game-winning goals and Norris Trophy finalist Brent Burns topped all NHL defensemen with 27 goals, 30 power-play points and 363 shots on goal.

In a league where goals are at a premium, the Sharks put a premium on putting the puck in the net during the 2015-16 NHL season. They were the only club in the the league to place three players among the NHL’s top 11 scorers – Joe Thornton (19-63-82), Joe Pavelski (38-40-78) and Brent Burns (27-48-75).

It was the eighth time in Thornton’s NHL career that he’d topped 60 assists, while Pavelski reached the 30-goal plateau for the fourth time. Meanwhile, Burns established new franchise marks for goals, assists and points by a defenseman.

Prior to making any wager on the San Jose Sharks, the first thing you must do is check their roster for that night’s game. If center Logan Couture is in the San Jose lineup, then odds are that victory will be in the cards for San Jose. Couture missed 30 games due to injury during the 2015-16 NHL season and during his absence, the Sharks treaded water, going 14-15-1 without Couture.

When Couture was healthy, the Sharks as a whole were enriched. San Jose was 31-15-5 when Couture did play, and no wonder. The five-time 20-goal scorer is someone who produces in the clutch. Couture has scored 33 game-winning goals during his NHL career and no one can accuse him of being a homer. Of those 33 game winners, 23 have been scored on the road, including all four of Couture’s winning tallies in 2015-16. He’s potted 22 game winners away from home since the start of the 2010-11, tied for the most in the NHL with Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals.
