Best Detroit Lions Betting Sites

The Detroit Lions are currently tied for 9th for most NFL titles, with four to their name. However, the last time they won one was in 1957, so Lions fans have endured a long wait for success. Given the Lions recent history, fans probably shouldn’t be too hopeful of a Super Bowl run anytime soon. Lions legend and leading receiving Calvin Johnson retired at the end of the 2015 season. However, Detroit is much improved under the leadership of Matthew Stafford, who helped the Lions qualify for the playoffs in the 2016-17 season.

Detroit Lions Online Betting Tips

The NFC North isn’t the best division in the league by any stretch of the imagination. However, the Lions have been improving as a franchise, a notion reinforced by their playoff participation in the 2016-17 campaign. While the Lions were beaten handily by the Seahawks, the campaign still showed progress.

Unfortunately, they’ll have to be even better in 2017-18 to once again qualify for the postseason. The Packers are massive favorites to take the divison once again and the Vikings are expected to be significantly better. Detroit shoudn’t have much trouble finishing above the lowly Bears, but that is not the club’s primary goal.

The Lions were excellent at home in the 2016-17 campaign, winning six of eight games. Their away record, though, was bitterly disappointing as the Lions 3-5 on the road. To make the playoffs in consistent seasons, the Lions will need to win at least one more road game while maintaining their excellent home form. Detroit finished with an adequate 3-3 record vs. divisional opponents, which was good for the second best record in the division. Only the Packers, who went 5-1 against fellow NFC North teams, enjoyed a better record.

The Lions had the 13th best defense in terms of points allowed, conceding 22 points per game. Those kind of defensive stats, if replicated, will go a long way in achieving another playoff berth.

The impetus will be placed squarely on Matthew Stafford’s shoulders to improve the team’s offensive output, as Detroit only mustered 21.6 points per game, the 20th best total in the league. If Stafford and company can improve their offensive production, they’ll be in with a chance at the playoffs.

We don’t think they have the quality to make the necessary improvements so avoid them on the futures market as third place in the NFC North is the Lions’ likely 2017-18 outcome.
