Best San Diego Chargers Betting Sites

Last season was not a good one to bet on the San Diego Chargers. They won just four games, battled a vast array of injuries and couldn’t ever gain a lick of momentum. This, of course, makes it difficult to peg them as a solid bet, both on a futures or single game scale, moving forward. The four wins from last season suggest you should stay completely away. The Chargers ranked 26th in points scored per game with a supposedly above-average quarterback, Philip Rivers, under center, and their defense wasn’t much better. [+]

It finishied 21st in points allowed per game. But San Diego snagged nine victories in each of the two previous seasons largely with the same roster, making you wonder how much injuries had everything to do with their demise.

Chances are, player absences, specifically those of start tight end Antonio Gates, killed their potential. Rivers also played through a plethora of injuries himself, too. And his receiving corps was depleted at the time to boot, making it nearly impossible for San Diego to gain any traction on the more glamorous side of the field.

It’s safe to say, then, that the Chargers are at least single game plays at full strength. Rivers isn’t far removed from being a top 12 quarterback, Gates is a top three tight end still and the combination of Melvin Gordon and Danny Woodhead in the backfield should be enough to get the Chargers’ offense humming.

Treat them as spread and moneyline options when faced with the right weekly matchup.

How To Win At San Diego Chargers Betting

Most of the futures fronts are not conducive to the current state of the San Diego Chargers.

Even with a much healthier roster, the Chargers are neither AFC nor Super Bowl contenders. You can even make the case that they’re still the worst team in the AFC West.

After all, both the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos figure to flirt with 10 or more victories once again. The Oakland Raiders, meanwhile, appear to be a young(ish) team on the rise—and they won nine games in 2015.

Funneling money into any of the big time futures bets, then, is a huge risk. Long shot bettors might entertain the idea, because that’s what they do. And there is a sliver of postseason hope to which the Chargers can cling now that they’re closer to full strength.

If you really want to bet on San Diego futures, though, consider the win totals department.

Sportsbooks will curb the total in the offseason because of how poorly the Chargers played in 2015. There is a strong chance you can find sites offering over/under gambits on six or seven wins.

Should you stumble across these sportsbooks, pounce on the opportunity. Though the Chargers could just as easily be a flop for the second consecutive year, they look so much better on paper. It feels like a given that they’ll win eight or nine games.

Even if that isn’t enough for a postseason bid (it probably isn’t), it’s most defintely enough to make you some cash on win total wagers.

Use the San Diego Chargers as habitual over plays to start the regular season. The team has changed, both in free agency and because of players getting healthy, but San Diego can help you profit off the over on a number of fronts.

There is a chance that the defense is better than it was in 2015, when it finished 21st in points allowed to rival offenses. The Chargers brought in defensive tackle Brandon Mebane (Seattle Seahawks) and cornerback Casey Hayward (Green Bay Packers) via free agency. Both of them beef up what was a pretty porous run and passing defense last season.

But these upgrades aren’t life-changing, so the Chargers should still hover around the bottom half of points allowed per game. That alone puts them on the fringes of over potential.

It’s the offense’s ceiling that pushes them over the top.

A healthy Philip Rivers and Antonio Gates have a phenomenal rapport in the air. The combo of Melvin Gordon and Danny Woodhead in the backfield is also one of the league’s most dangerous one-two running back punches. Both are adept at finding seems in the offensive line and can also be used as passing options off screens.

Rivers will have some healthy receivers to work with this season as well. Keenan Allen is back, and the Chargers poached standout Travis Benjamin from the Cleveland Browns in free agency.

Add those two to an air assault that already includes Gates, and San Diego should hang plenty of points on the board, most of them through touchdowns.

Factor in that still below average defense, and your betting recipe is set. The Chargers look like they should become over savants.

You’ll want to see how they progress in this department once the season actually starts, and you should always look to avoid over/under bets entirely when they play a top five defense. But, overall, it’s difficult to go wrong when using a healthy Chargers squad as over assets.
