The more things change, the more they stay the same for the Buffalo Bills. Does any team in the NFL tread water more consistently than the Bills? They are the picture of medocrity, entirely consistent within their existence of inconsistency. Since the 2000 season, the Bills have finished 8-8 three times, inclduing the 2015 season. There have also been two seasons of 9-7 and three campaigns of 7-9 produced by the Bills in that span. Factor in the five 6-10 years and you kind of get the picture.
The Bill are occasionally up a bit, and sometimes down a little but most frequently of all, they end up like that old episode of Seinfeld – even steven.
Even someone with a passing knowledge of NFL history knows that the Bills are the only team to play in four straight Super Bowls and the only team to lose four straight Super Bowls.
But not as many people are aware of how close the Bills came to playing the first Super Bowl. With future U.S. vice-presidential candidate Jack Kemp at quarterback, Buffalo won the AFL championship in 1964 and 1965 and captured the AFL East title in 1966 with a 9-4-1 record, earning the right to face the West Division champion Kansas City Chiefs for the AFL title and the chance to face the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl I.
Even though the game was at Buffalo’s War Memorial Stadium and the Bills were two-time defending champions, oddsmakers set the Chiefs as three-point favorites, and knew what they were doing. Tied 7-7 after one quarter, the Chiefs opened a 17-7 halftime advantage and added a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns for a 3-17 victory.

Bill Clinton was still in the White House. The Y2K virus left the planet feeling a sense of impending peril. And the Buffalo Bills qualified for the NFL playoffs.
Most people know 1999 as a hit song by Prince. In Buffalo, the recall it fondly as the end of the glory days. Between 1988-99, the Bills made the playoffs 10 times in 12 seasons, playing 20 postseason games while winning four AFC Championship Games and appearing in four Super Bowls.
The run came to a shocking halt in the opening round of the playoffs following the 1999 NFL regular season, a game the Bills stunningly lost to the Tennessee Titans on a lateral play on the kickoff following a Steve Christie field goal that put the Bills ahead 16-15 with 16 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
Christie kicked off, Lorenzo Neal picked up the ball and handed it to Frank Wycheck, who ran all the way to the right side of the field before turning and firing a cross-field lateral to Kevin Dyson, who scampered 75 yards for the winning score as the Titans downed the Bills 22-16 in what’s become known as the Music City Miracle.
That was the last game in the careers of Bills legends Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed and Bruce Smith and it’s also the last time the Bills played a playoff game, the longest drought in any North American major league sport.
Buffalo hasn’t won in the playoffs since 1995, beating the Miami Dolphins 37-22 in a wldcard game. But cheer up Bills fans. Another Clinton could soon be in the White House and maybe a return to glory is just around the corner.
Buffalo Bills Scores & Schedule
Look below and you will get all the up to date information on the Buffalo Bills games scores and schedule and the NFL schedule maker has done the Bills no favors.
The Bills open at Baltimore against the Ravens, among the toughest road tests an NFL team can face. Then they come home to face the New York Jets, who might still be angry after the Bills cost them a playoff spot last season by beating the Jets on the final weeked of the regular season. Then it’s back-to-back games against the teams that were the losers in last season’s conference championship games, at home to the Arizona Cardinals (NFC) and away to the New England Patriots (AFC), who figure to be without the suspended Tom Brady for this game.
Late October begins a diffcult stretch of games for the Bills with three games in four weeks against 2015 playoff clubs. They play host to the Patriots and then travel to Seattle to face the Seahawks and Cincinnati to meet the Bengals. There’s also a December date in Oakland and the Bills haven’t won on the road against the Raiders since Nov. 24, 1966, when Lyndon Johnson was President.
Three home games in December is always a good thing for the Bills, but one is against the Pittsburgh Steelers, no strangers to cold weather conditions. But imagine if the Bills come into their season finale at New York against the Jets needing to win to make the playoffs? Revenge is a dish best served cold.

How To Win At Buffalo Bills Betting
There is reason to believe that the Buffalo Bills can put an explosive offense on the field this season, that’s if they can keep all the pieces healthy. Running back LeSean McCoy dealt with injuries that limited him to 895 yards on the ground and three touchdowns, but a healthy McCoy is capable of leading the AFC in rushing.
Likewise, quarterback Tyrod Taylor and receiver Sammie Watkins look to be talents who have barely scratched the surface of their abilities. Taylor missed three games with injury but is a threat when passing or running the ball. Watkins, persistently plagued by nagging ailments, when healthy appears to be a guy who can garner over 1,000 yards in receptions and double digits in TDs.
With a defense that struggled to stop the pass and held its own against the run, the Bills sought to rectify that side of the ball in the 2016 NFL Draft, spending their first three picks on Clemson defensive end Shaq Lawson, Alabama inside linebacker Reggie Ragland and Ohio State defensive tackle Adolphus Washington.
Bills coach Rex Ryan also brought his brother Rob on board to oversee the team’s defensive scheme and if the Bills can perk up their pass defense, then the playoffs might not be out of the question for Buffalo.
