Best Ukraine Soccer Team Betting Sites

Up until 10 years ago, Ukraine historically was not much of an international soccer threat. That all changed at the 2006 World Cup when the Ukrainians made a statement on the world soccer stage by reaching the quarter-finals before being knocked out by eventual champions Italy. It was a magical run from the national team, which had never played in a major international tournament before that. Following the 2006 World Cup, Ukraine, which once sat 132nd in the FIFA world rankings, vaulted to No. 11 in 2007. [+]

After co-hosting the 2012 European Championship where they turned in a poor performance and failed to even make it out of the group stage, Ukraine qualified for the tournament in 2016 by winning a playoff against Slovenia. Coached by Mykhaylo Fomenko, it marked only the first time in the team’s previous five playoff appearances that it was able to win an international tiebreaking game. This will be Ukraine’s second major tournament appearance in 10 qualifying attempts.

Ukraine played its very first international match in 1992, dropping a 3-1 decision to Hungary. Its largest margin of victory was in 2013 when Ukraine cruised to a 9-0 victory during Euro qualifying.

Retired striker Andriy Shevchenko, who is now an assistant coach with the national side, ranks fifth among top goal scorers in all European competitions. His 48 international goals also rank first among all Ukrainian players. Anatoliy Tymoshchuk, who’s played with the Ukrainian team since 2000, is the all-time leader in international caps with 142.

Ukraine Soccer Team Standings Right Now

It’s unlikely Ukraine will be at the top of qualifying standings for major competitions. But they will most certainly always be in contention for qualifying positions, as proven with their entry into the 2016 Euro championships and the 2006 World Cup.

How To Win At Ukraine Soccer Team Betting

Expectations aren’t running very high for a Ukrainian team, which had six victories, three defeats and one draw in Euro 2016 qualifying. However it was definitely a tougher road to qualify for the European Championship this time around after Ukraine co-hosted the tournament in 2012 and automatically earned a berth.

The Ukrainians defeated Slovenia 3-1 in a playoff to officially secure their ticket to France. Known for having a strong offensive unit, it was Ukraine’s defence that stood out in qualifying after conceding just four goals in 12 qualifying matches.

They’ll face a tougher task at Euro 2016, however, as Ukraine sits in a group with defending World Cup titleholders Germany as well as Poland and Northern Ireland. It’s more than likely Ukraine will be in a dogfight for the second qualifying spot along with Poland, who are favoured to place behind Germany in Group C.

Much of Ukraine’s offence will run through striker Andriy Yarmolenko, who netted a pair of goals in the qualifying playoff against Slovenia, as well as Sevilla forward Yevhen Konoplyanka. An ageing defence will be exploited at Euro 2016 as Vyacheslav Shevchuk — now 37-years-old — is the team’s best and only option at left-back.

In a controversial twist, Ukrainian manager Mykhaylo Fomenko neglected to include any Russian-based players to his Euro 2016 squad.

While Ukraine will contest for the second qualifying spot, betting on them to make a run into the latter stages of Euro 2016 would be a risky gamble. In fact, Bet365 has Ukraine at 80/1 odds of winning the tournament.
