No stranger to the international limelight, Switzerland has appeared in 10 World Cups and advanced to the quarter-finals three times during the team’s storied history. During the 1954 World Cup, the Swiss made it to the Final 8 where they lost 7-5 to Austria. Founded in 1894, Switzerland has also advanced to the round-of-16 at two of the last three World Cups. In three separate appearances at the European Championship, the Swiss have failed to qualify out of the group stages. [+]

Currently ranked 14th in the world, Switzerland, which is led by Bosnian-born manager Vladimir Petkovic, advanced to the final 16 at the 2014 World Cup before being ousted by tournament finalist Argentina by a score of 1-0. Switzerland played its first international game against France in 1905.

At the 1924 Olympic Games, Switzerland earned a silver medal after losing to powerhouse Uruguay in the championship.

Once holding the 83rd spot in the FIFA rankings — its lowest-ever seed — Switzerland vaulted to its highest rating in 1993 at No. 3 in the world.

Swiss midfielder Heinz Hermann, who played internationally for 13 years, still leads the country in most caps with 118 while striker Alexander Frei is the all-time leading goal scorer with 42. Defender Stephan Lichtsteiner, who has 80 international caps under his belt, captains Switzerland.

How To Win At Switzerland Soccer Team Betting

Switzerland has never advanced out of the group stage at the European championship, but that should change in 2016. With a balanced group of attacking forwards and a solid foundation on defence, the Swiss should finish second in a favourable Group A — which includes tournament hosts France as well as long-shot nations Romania and Albania — and may even emerge as a Cinderella team in the tournament.

Bovada also has Switzerland to place second in the group at +400. Switzerland breezed through qualifying, finishing second behind England with seven wins and three losses while scoring 24 goals in the process. What’s even more impressive is the Swiss only conceded eight tallies for a +16 goal differential. Fourteen players scored during the qualifying stages, which will give manager Vladimir Petkovic plenty of options up front when they open the tournament on June 11 against Albania.

Stoke City forward Xherdan Shaqiri will be relied on to create much of the goal scoring after netting four tallies and five assists during the Euro 2016 qualifying round. Another star forward to keep an eye on heading forward is Haris Seferovic, a striker with Budesliga club Frankfurt who racked up three goals in Euro 2016 qualifying.

Should the Swiss make it out of the group stage and into the knockout rounds, they’d draw another favourable matchup in the round-of-16 against either Ukraine or Poland.

Bet365 has Switzerland pegged at 66/1 to win it all.
