Hailing from Phoenix are the Diamondbacks, one of the newest MLB franchises, ply their trade in the NL West division. The Diamondbacks, often shortened to simply D-backs, were only established in 1998, yet have already won five division titles, an NL Pennant, and a World Series, the last two on that list coming in 2001. This makes them the fastest expansion team in the league to win a championship. Following their World Series success, the Diamondbacks finished 2002 with a 98-64 record, enough to win the National League West division title.
But 2003 saw them fall to third place, and 2004 saw them end 51-111, the worst in MLB and one of the 10 worst records in recent times.
Over the next few years, a rebuilding plan was put in place for the Diamondbacks’ roster, which saw the team win the National League West title in both 2007 and 2011
Manager Chip Hale guided the Diamondbacks to third place in the NL West in 2015, finishing 13 games behind eventual champions Los Angeles Dodgers. It wasn’t the greatest season in the team’s short history, finishing with a 79-83 record, split between 39-42 at home and 40-41 away.
Fans of the Diamondback have gone through a whole range of emotions with their team being inconsistent throughout its short history.
Is 2016 the year that the franchise stabilizes and the Diamondbacks reproduce the form that MLB experts know they are capable of.
