There may be no more competitive division in baseball than the American League East, though this is a very recent development. When Major League Baseball realigned into six divisions in 1994, the newly-formed Amercan League East became the sole property of two teams. Between 1995 and 2013, the New York Yankees (13) and Boston Red Sox (three) won every division title save three – victories by the Baltimore Orioles in 1997 and the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008 and 2010.

On the other hand, if you start the count at 2010, each of the five teams in the American Leage East have won the divison title – the Rays in 2010, the Yankees in 2011-12, the Red Sox in 2013, the Orioles in 2014 and the Toronto Blue Jays in 2015.

AL East Betting Lines Today

It’s feasible that all five American League East Division teams could finish the season at .500 or better and it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility for three of them to qualify for postseason play.

After both personnel and front office changes, don’t be surprised to see a bit of a downtick in play from the Toronto Blue Jays. On the other hand, following three last-place finishes between 2012-15, the Boston Red Sox restructured their management adding some players and figure to be a team on the upswing again. The Baltimore Orioles have the potent attack that might be enough to overcome their shortcomings on the mound, while the plucky, small market Tampa Bay Rays always seem to find more help from their farm system to enable them to stay in the race.

Of course, you can never count out the mighty New York Yankees. Their stars might be growing a little long in the tooth and their pitching depth isn’t what it once was, but the Bronx Bombers always seem to find a way to hang around in the pennant race.

AL East Standings Right Now

This is where you can find the current American League East standings and the one thing you can be certain about this division is that not much will separate top from bottom among this hotly-contested group.

Since 2008, every single one of the five American League East teams have appeared in the American League Championship Series – the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008, the New York Yankees in 2009 and 2012, the Boston Red Sox in 2013, the Baltimore Orioles in 2014 and the Toronto Blue Jays in 2015.

Three of those teams went on to play for the World Series – the Rays, the 2009 Yankees and the Red Sox, with both New York and Boston bringing Fall Classic titles to the AL East during that span.

That’s good to know from a betting standpoint because you can be certain that whichever teams comes out on top of of the American League East has a legitimate chance to go all the way.

How To Win At American League East Betting

Why should you bet on the American League East? Well, not only does the division house some of baseball’s best and most consistent franchises, it also contains some of the American League’s most productive and irreplacable players.

Two of the top three and four of the American League’s top six performers in terms of wins above replacement during the 2015 campaign played for American League East teams. American League MVP Josh Donaldson (8.7) was second, followed by Manny Machado (6.8) of the Baltimore Orioles in third. His Baltimore teammate Chris Davis (5.5) was fifth, and Kevin Kiermaier of the Rays (5.5) came home sixth.

Every team in the American League East has won multiple division titles, and four of the five have won multiple World Series titles, so you can be sure no matter which way you opt to wager on American League East baseball, the odds should be in your favor.
